The St Paul's officials should have thought of the consequences when they welcomed these lay-abouts with open arms.
And the council what can be said about them?
Providing toilets, rubbish bins and street cleaning operatives, all at the council tax payers, while at the same time spending a 'fortune' in legal costs.
You just couldn't make it up, it could only happen in this country, anywhere else the police would have moved in, and had them removed long ago.

Many people of all ages said the same in the 1930s and hardly surprising as it was less than 20 years since the last blood-bath.
However, come the day the vast majority stepped up to do their bit.
Heaven forbid that today's young people should face that situation but if they did, depending on the context, i think we would find that people's underlying drivers remain the same.

Zuehl, maybe, but quite frankly we are a completely different nation now, and have moved on a lot since then. And if it came to a another world war, who would many fight for. I am well aware millions volunteered from our then commonwealth countries, but can't see that happening now, can you?

There are probably people at the protest camp who adhere to this.
They will be massively outnumbered by the professional protesters and other hangers on, whose behaviour and standards give offence to ordinary people.

It does depend on context.
Of course, modern warfare may just involve relatively small numbers of professional troops, advanced ordnance and everybody else's role limited to withstanding whatever is lobbed over.
It's true we have moved on. For example I think it would be impossible today to exploit and wastefully sacrifice people in the way they did in the carnage of WW1. Most people would tell Lord Kitchener what he could do with it and quite right too.
Whilst it is hard to imagine the context for a viable WW3 in the way that WW2 occurred, ultimately people fight to defend their homes, their loved ones and their way of life. That was the perception in 1914, probably the reality in 1939 and if a situation of that type of threat emerged again then inevitably people will step up.
