Hope everyone had a great xmas, and Santa was generous ;)

Not a fan of hunting with hounds myself - seems barbaric to me - but the current legislation is pretty toothless. Should the law be repealed?

DrFilth I missed your post on fishing -
"i would not put angling on the list , no way could i sit on a canal path for 12 hours catch 5 fish to thrown them back in but each to their own"

Sounds like a bit of a class warrior attitude...
>> Sounds like a bit of a class warrior attitude...<<

what has class warrior got to do with a person fishing on a canal or river bank

cheap licence for fishing on canal bank
higher costs for trout on river

you have lost me
That's rather disingenuous for a person of your strong views, don't you think?

To spell it out then - fishing is a working class bloodsport for the most part, while hunting is similarly seen as an upper class bloodsport.

To ask again - If foxes enjoy being hunted, do fish enjoy being tortured?
I've yet to see a bunch of out of control anglers a pet cat apart

http://www.telegraph....-27-hunting-dogs.html
That should be tear a pet cat apart - or rip or well you get the idea
it's unclear if fish know or worry about being "tortured". Foxes clearly know fear, that's why they run away. Fish still hang around and bite. And people do actually eat what they catch, even if fishing tends to be more recreational than hunter-gathering.

I'm not a fan of fish myself, but I'm not sure the analogy works.

i don't think so

not many working class can afford to pay these fees everyday

visitors permits are available on a daily basis, 5AM to 5PM from 11th February
to 10th August.
The prices range between £20 - £65 per rod per day depending on time of year

please point me to were i have posted that foxes enjoy being hunted.
I asked the question - didn't address it to anyone in particular.

DrFilth - as an anti-hunting person, perhaps you'd agree with the Hunt saboteurs..
http://www.thewestmor...ling_is_a_bloodsport/
I am still of the opinion that much of the anti-hunt fervour is anti-posh and envy driven.

Any campaign about angling would be a vote loser, and would alienate the very large coarse fishing fraternity. There's no mileage in it.

Even the RSPCA and League Against Cruel Sports dare not take it up.

Hypocrisy rules Ok?

There are thousands of fish caught, injured, and put back for every fox killed.

A hooked fish fights to escape, and is clearly distressed when taken from the water.

If anyone thinks it's not cruel, try sticking a fish hook in your top lip.
A 'sport' in which any participant has not, at least, been asked to confirm (by making their mark, etc) their willingness to take part......ought to be discouraged.
The motivation isn't relly relevantthough is it?

I have no doubt there are lots of people who have all sorts of motivations

Some will be class motivated
Some will be animal welfare motivated
Some will be vegetarians
Some will think hunts are a danger to their pets.

The motivation's hardly relevant

It's the strength of the argument that counts

and saying what I do shouldn't be illegal because someone else is doing something just as bad isn't much of an argument

Well not once youre over 5 years old

No offence, kebabshop, your son is obviously among the more humane anglers, but a fish has a spinal cord and nerves, so feels pain.

The suggestion re fish hook and top lip stands ...
For the record, I'm totally against hunting - foxes, whatever where it's done for pleasure, not food.

See above where the Hunt Saboteurs describe Foxhunting and angling as "cruel and abhorrent"

It's hypocritical to campaign against foxhunting and participate in angling.
venator >> That's rather disingenuous for a person of your strong views, don't you think? <<

so is that your philosophy , if i have strong views on fox hunting i must have strong views on all other matters, don't think so i have given you my view on fishing

i shall post the prices for you again as you may have missed them

>> visitors permits are available on a daily basis, 5AM to 5PM from 11th February

not many working class or benefit scroungers can afford these prices everyday
would need a wealthy person to fish that river on a regular basis

are you afraid that the hunting mob will set there dogs on the fish with no foxes about

why not start up a new post about fishing you may get more answers that way, remember this is about fox hunting
DrFilth - couldn't help noticing the times you posted foxhunting video nasties linked to Cameron and friends, which strongly suggested a political line of thought.

Again, you refer to river fishing costs and ignore the far larger number of canal fishermen.

The selectivity of your examples makes me think you have a political agenda.

ethics, not politics....
And you're right - it's about foxhunting - I just don't like the single issue hypocrisy and politicisation

I'll stop posting and leave you to it.
