I wonder if we were picking a Saint today we would choose someone from Turkey. And if we did, how many little englanders would be complaining on the AnswerBank.

Hulagirl,
"Just how do these legends start? Dreams? Hallucigenic drugs? Blatant story telling? Is this what we're following or is there a more rational explanation?"
This has worked well for the bible, so why not for our George ?

Wow! Do I detect a sense of humour rising from the ashes?
No it's not news to me,
English and proud of it, also aware of St George and the stories attached to him.
Will raise a G & T to him tonight.

Are you saying that if your parents hadn't gone to the pub, on this day, when you were a child, you'd have known more about St. George than you do?
Learned about Saint George at school.
I don't want a day off.
I don't smoke.
I will be having a drink tonight anyway.
I have read up on his life.
I do not have any grand children, confused or otherwise.
Please do not include me in everyone, I can speak for myself.
