Aww Hula sweetie...Lighten up. They don`t use St. George as a reason for anything you say. It`s a day the English share their pride in their nationality as we do with St. Patrick. There are people on here who will know more about St. George than you and I ever will but let them enjoy being English,share their greetings, and enjoy their day. And thank them for sharing it with us.

St George as we visualise him owes more to art than history... in the same way our ancestors believed in the image of a fair skinned blonde jesus as that was how he was painted ... so on one level we know this is not the truth behind the story and are happy to accept the informed reality but on another level we react to the idealisation because we prefer it.

They held a St Georges celebration in Birmingham on Saturday Redman and I were in the pub when a group of thirsty morrismen arrived... took a while for him to grasp why I knew none of them had been circumcised

I am really surprised of the skepticism shown by hula as, after all, St George did kill a dragon that was spewing flames and smoking like crazy.
