Morning,

I'm hoping to have a way for us to "quote" one another today.

Questions:

1. How would you like the quotes to look? Italics? Bold? A different colour? All suggestions will be considered.

2. How would you like to implement it? We need a trigger to tell the system "this is a quote". This trigger will be typed before and after the quote so the system to knows where to begin and end. Some options:

{quote}message to be "quoted"{quote}
[Q]message to be "quoted"[Q]
*message to be "quoted"*

It is possible we could put some pretty quote marks around the quote. Who would be in favour of this?

Maybe like this:

it seems the italics fail if there is a special symbol inside the tag.

Thanks again Chuck, so how do we go on if the passage happens to include one of these symbols?
ooo err Ethel, it do
So this is quote
I assume you would have to put the brackets with the i in each side of the symbol.
lets see ♫♪♫ if that works

Thank you so much for that it will come in most useful, so much so that I have printed out a copy.

It's probably unlikely to occur in day to day use of the site, but if it does it's not going to be the end of the world.
Would it not be possible to do it like Facebook. When you say someones name it highlights it.

We could do something like that. Like @Ummm

But I'm not clever enough to account for spelling errors.
spelling errors, now who around here makes those...

murph's mum :+)
A couple of quote marks would be sufficient.
I read the first three pages and I still don't get how to do it. Do I have to read all nine?
Place [i] at the start and again at the finish of the text you want in italics.

It won't work with any special characters like ♫ etc
To emphasise[i or not to [b]emphasise[b] - [i]that] is the question.
The parsing doesn't seem to be working. I pasted the same 3 characters before and after two words in that sentence I wil try again leaving a space before the closing tag.

To emphasise [i or not to [i] emphasise ] (bold doesn't work) - that is the question.
I think this feature needs a lot more beta testing before release.

Too late for the naughty people in the back row are now doing ]ǝʇɐl ooʇ[i]
What happens here?
To <i style="color:#43354e;">emphasise </i> or not to <i style="color:#43354e;"> emphasise </i> (bold doesn't work) - <i style="color:#43354e;"> that </i> is the question.
OK Ed, just let us know when it is foolproof and ready to roll out across the boards.

In the meantime I prefer boards that provide html support, BBcode support, or 'highlight and click style' support
Trying something else
