/// "Converts who become extremists or terrorists are, of course, a legitimate story," said Mr Mughal. "But my worry is that the saturation of such stories risks equating all Muslim converts with being some sort of problem when the vast majority are not". ///
What is Fiyaz Mughal, director of Faith Matters actually suggesting that all such stories should be somehow less saturated in some way?
How does he suggest that this can be done?

I refer you back to my previous post - I acknowledge that there were other nations (and African tribal elders) involved in the slave trade, but just because were does not excuse the *industrial* levels of slavery and the MILLIONS (just think about that for a moment...MILLIONS) who were enslaved or born, lived and died as slaves.
One other thing - you know that thing about Britain being the first to abolish slavery? That's like being the first bloke gang raping a girl to say, "Hang on fellas....perhaps this is wrong"
Well done for stopping, but don't expect to get an MBE for it.

sp how do you know that our forefathers weren't poor, enslaved themselves. It does make me wonder whether you think we all descended from the ruling classes, nobility, the way you expect us to keep on apologising for something that we did not do.
I expect my family were in the poor category, and didn't get any better treatment on coming over from Ireland. They wouldn't have been born with a silver spoon that's for sure. And whilst we are at it, aren't you doing exactly what you accuse some on here of doing, that is making sweeping statements.

Not all Brits enjoyed the benefits of slavery back in the 1700s, and indeed, many had pretty miserable lives.
However - every single British person was free to do as they chose. To work where they wanted to work, marry whomsoever they chose to marry.
Slaves were branded with the identifier of their owners. Slaves who attempted to escape were either hung, or had part of their foot cut off (naturally without anaesthetic).
Whilst you may not be descended from the ruling classes, your lifestyle now is based on great leap forwards made during the industrial revolution, innovations by great British inventors, Britain's pre-eminence as a trading nation...and slavery. If you have a workforce picking cotton, tea, building transport infrastructures or working in agriculture - you're gonna make A LOT of money (labour is the highest cost element in the production and distribution of goods).

wrong again, not every British person was free to do as they please, many worked either in agriculture, tied to the land, via landlords, the nobility, then many who gravitated towards the cities later on worked in factories, and led in many cases a poor, degrading very short life.
There seems to be some misconception, that we all got fat and rich on the backs of the slave trade. Some certainly did, but for the majority of people in Britain it was toil, slog, and not always enough money to put on the table for food. In Victorian times, 1 in 5 children died from disease, poverty, malnutrition, not exactly lording it up i must say.

rather to my surprise, there were indeed Irish slaves - and if em is descended from one, she should be entitled to an apology too.

Naomi people have converted to Islam for hundreds of years just as they have the other Abrahamic faiths to suggest it is just a fad like the hippy movement is ridiculous.
There is no doubt that some mulsims become extremists but Islam is the second largest faith in the word if all of them were extremists we would know about it, agree completely with Gromits football hooliganism analogy.
Islam is not some alien faith like propagandists like to portray it, it is a family orientated, charitable religion that has much in common with Christianity.
Anoftheoldgit do you have any figures on the amount of muslim extremists, to me an extremist is somebody who behaves in an extreme fashion not merely someone who has a different ethos to you

There is a world of difference between the tithe system and slavery.
Not sure why you've brought apologies into this thread - I think I said 'acknowledge'. AOG also brought up the word forgiveness -again...not what I'm talking about.
Back to my point - Britain grew rich due a combination of great leap forwards during the industrial revolution, combined with cheap raw materials produced partly by slaves. Also - remember...Britain not only made money from slave labour, but slaves themselves became a saleable commodity.

/// Easy answer - coz I'm British. ///
That does not mean you have to stay in the land which treated your forefathers so abominable, you are not a slave you are free to go where ever you want to go.
/// That question has as much validity as asking a German Jew "If you find what the Third Reich did so repugnant, why don't you move to Isreal?" ///
There were many who did just that after the war, and I am sure the German people aren't forever being made to apologise for what the Nazis did, just as the modern British are forever being asked to apologise to the rest of the world, for what their forefathers did hundreds of years ago.
In conclusion SP if I felt so anti British as you apparently do, I would be off to a country were I felt more at ease, not to so while continuing to *** us off is just being hypocritical.

As I have had NO feedback on my answer,I feel it to be important to ask again so I Repeat.-------- To leaders of Islam. If you want true converts to Islam, sort it out so that it be well & truly known that the Prophet (pbu) advocated peace, love & goodwill. Isolate all the rubbish from the religion who are giving Islam a bad name. Let it be known that those who advocate evil are & will be barred from the faith & there will be no room in Heaven for any of them. It is now high time that you made a stand. Say it on radio & tv & in newspapers & in all other means of communication.

AOG, if you were of the anti-British views of SP, you would leave the country.
If any on here, born and bred British and of centuries of pure British ancestry, happen to agree with SP, would you like them to leave the country, as something they ought to do for the same reasons that you would apply to yourself?

And please stop using the word 'apologise' Old Git.
That is dishonest of you.
sp has repeatedly reiterated that he seeks 'acknowledgement' not 'apologies' which seems eminently fair as he is seeking acknowledgement for events that did happen and that our country benefited from and indeed produced national assets that though they originated in the slave trade have benefited this country ever since and continue to do so.
