he firebrand will remain in the country for up to a year because he will now resume a separate legal challenge against assurances that he will face a fair trial

I can't understand why we don't do the same as France. They'll deport someone even if the EU commission says they can't, so then the EU fines France about £5000 pounds for disobeying the commision's ruling. End of problem, end of story.

Still wondering about his lawyers. What kind of solicitor waits until a few hours before the deadline before submitting an appeal? (Answer: Probably most of them; they have the deadline day noted in their diaries, electronic or paper,and rush to do it when that appears !) They don't gain any chargeable time through delay in appealing, just high blood pressure.Doesn't reflect well on them though; it seems negligent in the care of the case; and their image is bad enough already.
