It appears that the parents of the 6 children killed in a fire at Derby have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are to be questioned later. There seems to have been rumours and I wondered if that was what they were about after caravan/mini bus were taken for forensic examination. I suppose it wasn't meant to be anything other than an accident which went terribly wrong. If they did do it, they will have this to live with for the rest of their lives. Those poor children.
And in the aftermath I was in total confusion - didn't know how to behave. Should I contact the other people involved (strangers), send flowers, condolences? I was overwhelmed with gratitude for the emergency services and the passers by that helped me - should I contact them, send them flowers, acknowledge them in some way?
I agree with Lazygun, who said //I would think that it might make sense to wait on further events before passing judgement on the guilt or otherwise of these people.//
If they're guilty I have to ask why they did it? It makes no sense to me.
Regardless of whether or not the parents did this, my thoughts are of the six kids who are no longer with us. Pictures of them in the paper again today, so joyful and full of life, having a lark, cheeky grins on their faces and now they're brown bread. And at least one had an agonising, slow death.
what i would like to know is why the police wanted to examine the caravan and the minibus and moreso why they did forensics in the hotel room where they stayed while their child was in hospital.
It's the police's job to examine everything that may or may not be relevant.
They don't have the benefit of working on hindsight and in every case of suspicious death the nearest and dearest are early suspects and evidence has to be gathered to support or negate their version of events.
When evidence is destroyed it is too late to go back and check.
I don't get this at all - why would he want to kill them, what would his motive be? As I said before he will now get less benefits by having no children living with him. But I have looked at the interview again and yes I agree it does look a bit false.......................
And as I've said before, Ann, would you act naturally in front of tv cameras, with the press pack and their camera flashes going off constantly? Never mind being in a state of shock and grief. Just how should one behave in that situation? I have no idea.
i thought they may have wired the hotel room or a conversation was overheard but that could just be my imagination running wild after watching certain crime programmes.
it did seem a bit confusing in the beginning as to where the couple were exactly at the time of the fire, it was said they were sleeping downstairs then another report said they were in the caravan on the drive.
I thought they looked dodgy from the start, as for them acting strange because of the cameras.... they've been on the Jeremy Kyle show so should be used to it.
I reckon they was in the caravan, started the fire intending to rescue the kids and things got out of hand which killed those poor kids.
because everything happened so quickly after the fire started and 5 children were already dead, normal forensics at the scene were put on hold apparently.the parents were not questioned for over 24 hours, and the hotel room they were given after they had left their son's bedside, could have had forensic evidence from their clothes etc
With regards to evidence, hc4361 is correct. The police have to collate evidence asap after the event as once disturbed there is no point in going back. Best have too much than insufficient. With regards to wiring their room, I believe this would be inadmissable in court.
Again I agree with hc4361 as to 'nearest & dearest' being suspects from the early stages as this is often the case.
My own thoughts are that the fire was obviously deliberate but the offenders would probably not have realised how quickly the fire would spread and thought they would have had time to get the children out. As the police have confirmed 'the investigation is far from over', maybe others could also be involved!!
