I do hope this doesn't affect G4S's hopes of getting government contracts for privatised police work.

Probably won't.

I bet G4S still collect full payment.

It's the banks all over again - take the money, fail, and get bailed out by the taxpayer.
I don;t know what they are thinking hiring them in the first place. G4S are a well known shower of sh1te, I would hire them to walk my dog!
Sorry to be smirking slightly here but seriously? Coupled with what is likely to be the most embarrassing opening ceremony in history this will pretty much make sure ours is an Olympics to remember.
Probably all Masons MoonRocker. However, I suspect this has been kown for sometime.
I think that the Americans would describe it as SNAFU.
I friend of mine signed up to be a security guard at the Olympics.

He went to the first days training (a few weeks ago) and the room was full.

By the next day a few had dropped out, and then each day more and more dropped out.

By the Friday half the people had dropped out.
At a cost of 284mil to G4S - Am I surprised - no - they have the Olympic committee up the swanee without a paddle - an absolute disgrace, surely they are in breach of contract.
Radio 5 lunch time reported that the police force that were goint to use them have pulled the plug this morning.
That's fine, we'll get some proper security now - but how are we going to stop it raining???
And to think we ridiculed Greece for leaving things to the last minute when they had the Olympics!
I'm not defending anyone here, but is it not the case that the original request for Security staff from G4S was for 2000 people which was subsequently increased to 10000, a pretty big increase by anyones standards.
so the army is called in, let's hope it's not soldiers they propose to get rid of at the end of the games.
sorry NOX, why will the openning ceremony be embarrasing. I didn't know they done previews. They've got Danny Boyle is doing it so I'd hope he comes up with something good. Have you seen a rehearsal then?
The Private Sector cocks up.
It seems they have moonrocker, and firkin' dreadful it sounds too

Don't see you volunteering your services, gromit.

In Athens, they didn't have the roofs of the two major stadiums ready, so I guess, this one is much lesser - and there's always going to be some last minute glitsch.......always is something at these mega events....
My Brother in-law was offered a job driving for g4s to cover the Olympics, basically he would be driving security staff from a hostel to the venue then taking them back at the end of the shift, he was offered £400 a day ! !
so security has had to be nationalised. Thatcher must be spitting tacks.
