No Need To Have Made Arrest At School?
http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ ...d-ma ncheste r-19681 382
The link may not mention it, but the Beeb news has reported that this 15 years old lad was actually arrested at school.
"..on suspicion of assisting an offender"
Perlease, lads! Even I would never have done that! I gather he has since been reeased on Bail. All his schoolmates now know his identity - and we all know what that can lead to?
The arrest: I've no doubt it was justified.
The timing: Abysmal? The place? Inappropriate, I'd say, unless there was real concern (tongue in cheek) that this kid would have absconded before he might have been nicked elsewhere?

It DOES matter - very much so. You've surmised that "it would have spread around his school like wild fire.."
As Kenny Dalglish once famously said: "Mibbes aye...mibbes naw". But it's now guaranteed to do just that. However, had he been discreetly nicked - and there are ways of doing just that - any speculation at school would have been just that - not the certainty of the no doubt horrendous bullying and intimidation this youngster's guaranteed to face?
Even my present day colleagues can b*lls it up!
Not that I ever did, of course? (cough)

The cynic might think that the purpose of this post is an attempt by the OP to demonstrate that he is objective and unbiased about the police - not an opinion that could be formed having read Kerosenes other recent posts about police in the news..the Hillsborough and the numerous Tomlinson/Harwood postings spring to mind.
Hang on, I wouldn't mind some of the criticism if it was in any way justified on this forum? People are forever jumping to improbable conclusions with next to no justification whatsoever.
I have in no way done that. I have repeated what our most respected broadcaster - stand by for bombs about that claim - the Beeb, has reported. I have commented on that information and given my views.
Re the suggestion that the Police may have snuck into the school and spirited this lad away in total secrecy beggars belief. As I said, had that been the plan it wouldn't have happened at school in the first place.

It all starts with the assumptions that you outlined, kero....and that's where we start from, so don't blame ABers. Have you proverbially shot yourself in your foot or perhaps even your ***?

sherradk,
Definitely not in my experience. Arresting someone where there are liable to be a number of others should always be avoided - if at all possible. I've already outlined why.
Also, it must be borne in mind that anyone is only ever arrested 'on suspicion' of an offence, i.e. the old 'innocent until proven guilty' maxim?
Therefore, to minimise unnecessary embarrassment, plus the very fact that this lad is classified in law as 'a juvenile' is another valid reason because if it was your son wouldn't you prefer to at least be present rather than find out from his headteacher? Or worse - from some p**s taking teenagers at the school?
Anyway, your reference about safety is understood, but I still subscribe to the view that his home address would have been the most appropriate for the reasons I've mentioned.
