/// Greater Manchester Police investigated a complaint by a 15-year-old victim that she had been raped in 2008, but prosecutors opted not to press charges and the abuse continued. ///

/// Police have played down the racial backgrounds of the men, saying the girls – mostly from broken or ‘chaotic’ homes – were targeted because they were vulnerable, not because they were white. ///

/// Backing them, Keith Vaz, the Labour chairman of the home affairs select committee, yesterday told the Today programme that highlighting the Pakistani origin of all but one of the gang risked giving ammunition to the far-Right. ///

And wouldn't that be convenient Mr Vaz, we don't want the Nation, never mind about the Far-Right.to know about these Pakistanis do we?

There should be no cover-ups, be them British or British/Pakistani, or any other nationality, the people should know the full facts, regardless which side of politics one comes from.

/// Ms Ann Cryer, a former Labour MP in Keighley, West Yorkshire. said: ‘This is an absolute scandal. ///

/// They (the police and CPS) were petrified of being called racist and so reverted to the default of political correctness. They had a greater fear of being perceived in that light than in dealing with the issues in front of
them.’ ///

And now those others in authority who choice to ignore this disgraceful state of affairs now should either 'fall on their swords' or be sacked

sp - It is far more difficult for Muslim children to complain about abuse.
hc4361

You may very well have a point, but the problem is that either a) figures ad low because abuse is low or b) abuse is at the same levels as the rest of the population, but suppressed or a combination of both...

...but there's no way of knowing.

Also, the point I was stumbling towards is the (relatively) low number of vulnerable Asian girls within the care system, in which these predators find their victims.
I agree with the remarks that parenting, or lack of it, is a major root cause, and then adding into the mix, quality of education, support and role models, drink and drugs, all of them coming together to suggest that these girls are fair game to any gang of young testerone-fuelled men (again some of the above issues coming together) - and also, by the way, those bent on pimping as a "career".
There has always been men taking advantage of vulnerable boys and girls, certainly I knew of it when I was a teen.
There has always been underage prostitutes of both sexes and there still is.
hc4361

When you read stories like this it makes you realize, no matter what you have going on in your life, how lucky you are.
where does it indicate the girls were prostitutes, or being targeted by young testosterone fuelled men. It would seem any number of men from a previous case were not young, but middle aged, fathers, brothers, husbands, so please do not heap the blame on the young girls, they are not the ones at fault here. I totally agree about the white girls who are vulnerable, perhaps from poor backgrounds, needy and looking for some comfort, these evil men prey on that vulnerability. As to Asians having strong family ties, if that were the case, some of their womenfolk would not be parcelled out to men old enough to be their grandfathers, or have honour killings, or them being sent off to the land of their fathers to be married against their wishes. Nor have the many refuges set up here in Britain for Asian women being battered by their husbands.

I do believe this is a colour and cultural issue, white girls, women being poorly treated by these horrible men, i hope at whatever point they get
the help they deserve.

But it's still true that Asian families have strong ties. No matter that some (as you say) have extremely reductive attitudes to women.

You can also point to the fact that Asian pensioners don't die alone in unheated flats because their families can't be bothered.

You can point to the fact that Asian women, more than any other group in the country, get higher grades in school and have equally high numbers in higher education.

You can point to the fact that there millions of Asian-run family businesses thriving even through the recession.

It's always best to balance the negative with the positive.

I think (although I'm not sure) that hc4361 was referring to the fact that in a couple of the most recent cases, the girls had sex with these men for drugs and drink.

However, whilst they willingly sold themselves (de facto prostituting themselves), I would disagree that they should be thought of as prostitutes.

The basic rule that should be applied is that whether they willingly engaged in sex for drugs is irrelevant. Underage is underage.
SP, these men seemingly plied them with drugs and drink, their self esteem would i am pretty sure be little or none, not just with the substance abuse but the fact of their lives in general. Care homes don't seem to care in many cases, no rules, guidelines, nor indeed anyone to show a damn about these poor lasses. I would heap all approbation on these vile men, sorry if that offends some, but quite frankly if we can castigate, vilify Jimmy Savile, and quite rightly, then we can do the same for these scumbags who prey on young vulnerable girls, and they do seem to do it to young white girls for those who say it's not about colour, i suspect that is exactly what it's about.
this is what it says in the article,

Mr Garner, who has been in position for three years and worked as a manager in children's social care before his promotion to director, was in charge at the time of the scandal, which saw at least 47 children used by an Asian gang for sexual gratification.

Nine Asian men were jailed this year for between four and 19 years for grooming young white girls in and around the town - picking them up from the school gates and taking them to houses and flats to be plied with alcohol and drugs before being passed around for sex.

Forty-seven children were identified as victims of the exploitation that left many of their lives in tatters.
I have just come back to this thread and must apologise for misunderstanding caused by my post at 16.40 yesterday.

I did not mean to imply that these victims were acting as prostitutes.
I meant that underage prostitutes are victims AS WELL as children who are groomed and that children have been groomed and worked as prostitutes for a very long time.
so they are, and one day some of these dopey politicians, social workers, parents, will take their heads of of their backsides and do something constructive, like take note and properly look after the children under their care.
this is appalling, picking up the children from school gates, heaven almighty.
It happened in the 70s, em. 13 and 14 year old girls being picked up by their 'boyfriends' in cars from the school gates.
maybe where you lived, but never ever around our way, and believe me i would know, and so would my family.
em10

Yes - I agree that all men who interfere with the well-being of children (that's a very light euphemism) should be brought to book.

But taking your example of Jimmy Saville...we need to be careful not to automatically associate Muslim/Pakistani men with this kind of crime...in the same way that the Jimmy Saville case should not make us think that all white children's entertainers from the 70s/80s were paedophiles.

/// we need to be careful not to automatically associate Muslim/Pakistani men with this kind of crime. ///

Of course it is not 'ALL' Muslim/Pakistani men, but one has got to admit that it is an increasing number of Muslim/Pakistani men, who are committing these kind of crimes.

/// But taking your example of Jimmy Saville. ///

I can see no reference to me taking a Jimmy Saville example, and in this particular thread we are addressing these growing numbers, which have nothing to do with the J. Saville case, so therefore 'white children's entertainers from the 70s/80s' have no place in this discussion.

Sorry SP, I have just noticed that you were answering em10, so please ignore my Saville references.
AOG, you are aware that some of the Rochdale men are not Pakistani (nor their parents)?

I urge you to read this informative report.
