In all honesty, I do not understand the calls for him to give the money to charity.
He has been, allegedly, been wrongly accused of child abuse, his reputation has been damaged and the compensation is in recompense for that, I'm certain he could have gone for, and got, a heck of a lot more had he wanted to.
meanwhile, of course the real perpetrator is getting away with it. none see to have thought if it isnt him, who is it (perhaps understandably)

If we agree that 'Fred Bloggs' would have been entitled to recompense for such a slur, then I think that we have to agree that Lord McAlpine is similarly entitled.

The fact that, as a wealthy man, he probably doesn't really need the money is neither here nor there.
this is only the first of any number of cases, Mrs Bercow hopefully will be next.
