The answer would be a definite 'NO', had the remarks been deemed racist, the members of the crowd who issued these remarks would have not only been removed from the proceedings but would have also faced a charge of racism.

BTW, I also think it's unfair that he was the one asked to leave (I'm sure he wasn't "ejected" as the paper is claiming) but the security had limited options, they couldn't really ask the other 4500 people to leave, Maybe taking the guy to a private box or similar would have been a better way to deal with it.

Think I know where oldgit is coming from and people of a certain colour or race get away with a lot these days and trust me I'm not racist.

The typical answers one has been accused of receiving, when making a valid point, which through it's very subject has to make certain comparisons.

It is not a matter of making a criticism of a person's skin colour, just that what I am trying to get over, is the fact that anyone's feelings can be hurt, not just certain minorities.

So why in these type of case, are some treated so differently to others?

I agree with JTP, the organisers took the easy option of removing one man as opposed to removing many more. They escorted this man out for his own safety, in part though.

How can any of us say that they would have reacted differently with a different person being harassed?

Damn right he was. The hecklers should have been ejected, rather than him. If it were a crowd of racists they would've been (rightly) ejected or perhaps arrested.

However, I think it trivialises the issue of racism to compare it to gingerism or even jesusism.

Very few Jesus lookalikes are refused jobs based on their likeness to our Lord.
