Does anyone agree with me that anyone convicted of child abuse should be castrated or steralized.

I don't think that anyone convicted of child abuse should be castrated or sterilized. That would most likely be a cost to the public. I'd like something more sinister to happen to them, personally.

Yes
if it was my child yes i would want them dead, forget the castration bit. But the law is the law, and that would have to take its course, as it has to with any civilised society.
Well Leahbee, one of my friends has two boys who were abused by a close family friend. The way those parents conducted themselves was humbling. They wanted justice for their children, but not at any cost. I sat and held my friend's hand in Court the day he was sentenced. He got time inside. However, my friend's focus was always on her children and helping them overcome their ordeal. She said to me on a number of occasions "I want him to get help". She didn't want him beaten up, castrated or killed and was content with the tariff he was given by the Judge.

Victims of abuse often feel shame and guilt, sometimes a sense of responsibility for what has happened to them.

Sometimes the victim feels love for the abuser.

To further burden the victim with the knowledge that the abuser has lost his (or her) life could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

i think it depends on the form of castration and age of the victim

if it's just the testicles removed, the eunuch can usually still achieve an erection

many of the European Castrati of the 18th and 19th centuries, operated on to preserve their singing voices were renowned and popular lovers for society ladies - as in harems, the non-risk of pregnancy would be one attraction
HC, it is castration - it does not kill you.
most were slaves and those didn't have a choice. You are right about the castrati, because it gave them an ultra high voice. There are singers around now who use this technique, however one assumes it's unlikely they have got rid of their dangly bits just to sing a few notes higher x
I don't care for it myself, but one man who's name escapes me is an astonishing singer, if you like that sort of thing.
No We don't want Sharia Law in this country, where would it end, hands chopped off for stealing?

Andreas Scholl, a counter tenor, not really my taste, but his voice is astonishing.

Child abuse is not only sexual. What about phisical abuse from a father who goes on to have several more children . I also know of cases where women have seriously neglected their children and had them taken into care yet still carry on having more babies. They too are then taken into care.
Definitely not
"but I wonder what they would be if you or one on your children had been a victim."

I would hope exactly the same. If emotion clouded my judgement and I ended up screaming for vengeance, as opposed to justice, then clearly I would have 'lost the plot'; and my point of view thus irrational and suspect, and should be dismissed as the balance of my mind would clearly be upset.
ok, once more - not all abusers are male. So what should happen to females
I think that's where the sterilization comes in, Always Confused.
In reality, anyone who abuses their children is likely to have any new arrivals taken away from them at birth
Thanks, hc, but I don't see how that would stop a woman!?!
which is the problem if the person isn't an abuser, say for example the child had something wrong with it, like brittle bones. The parents can then lose not only that child, and any subsequent ones, till it's proven that the first child wasn't abused, hard to do.
no
Exactly Em, there have been a couple of cases of innocent women being convicted on the evidence of a now discredited doctor.
