Ryan Air - Taking The Proverbial!

I'm generally a supporter of Ryan air, going with the view that their extra charges are all avoidable. However this is definately a new level in exploitation!

The last time I flew with Ryanair – it really was the last time. Never again! I watched people putting perfume, alcohol, and cigarettes they’d bought at the Duty Free shop in the dustbin before boarding – and having to put their coats on instead of carrying them over their arms, because Ryanair’s ‘one item on board’ policy was strictly applied. It was utterly disgraceful. Depending on the destination, I can’t always get a flight from a local airport, but I’m happy to travel further to go with British Airways – often for less money because it doesn’t impose all the additional charges – and the weight allowance for cabin baggage is enormous. Much more civilised!

In some ways I don't mind Ryanair. All they're doing is breaking down the total cost into lots of bits and charging you separately for them, so that they're effectively optional.

What I mean is it might seem ridiculous that they charge you for going to the toilet, but BA also charge you for going to the toilet. It's just that they build it into the ticket price, so you pay even if you don't go.

If you don't mind playing that game with them and are careful not to fall for any of their tricks ( like this £70 sting for printing ), you can get very cheap travel.

Personally I don't use them because I don't want to play those silly games. As Naomi says, it doesn't seem very civilised.

Naomi - last time I went I had my hand luggage and a tiny over the shoulder bag. It's no bigger than some peoples purses but it was considered hand luggage so I wasn't allowed to carry it on.

Ryanair are the only ones that fly into Knock so we have no choice but to use them.
