Why Are Some Forced To Depend On Food Handouts In 'benefit Britain'?
174 Answers
On my visit to a supermarket today I saw shopping trolleys with notices on them asking for donations of items of food for the hungry of this country.
I cannot believe that in 2013 Britain there are people who have to depend on food handouts, especially when this country is supposed to be one of the richest in the world and taking into account the £billions we hand out freely to the rest of the world.
This is yet another time that I can say that I can never remember the time, even during the war, and pre Welfare State days, when I ever remember our local CO-OP appealing for persons to make donations of food for the hungry.

Well, yes, I see that is an attitude to be condemned, but ummm asks where are they (the poorest) supposed to live. The answer is they are living somewhere and survive. We still await any evidence that anyone is so badly off that the support provided by the state necessitates their taking free tins of food to supplement their diet. Where is that evidence?
Ummmm, a few years back I picked up large rolls of bandages that gets used in Hospitals, I took them at that time to Preston dock ( They had container ships docking there at that time) they were shipped to China, uncoiled & made into the bandages you see now in the Chemists etc (Small packs) they were then shipped back to Preston cheaper than getting that done here!!!!
I ant understand why some people won't accept that there is a genuine need for food banks in 2013. Just because you don't know anyone who needs to use one or have never needed to use one yourself, doesn't mean that others don't. http:// www.tru sselltr ust.org /foodba nk-proj ects

"Sir Michael Marmot, a health inequality expert at University College London says, that despite the vast wealth of this country, many people on low incomes simply don't have enough money to feed themselves and this has a huge impact on their health. "In the most deprived part of the Westminster, life expectancy for men is 17 years shorter than in the richest part of the borough. That's how big the health inequalities are in the UK"

I have followed this thread with great interest. IMO the young expect everything given to them on a plate. They want it all and they want it now. I'm not speaking of responsible people who have lost their jobs. The only debt we ever had was a mortgage. If every one was like us maybe the country would be a better place.
