@ Octavius - If you are going to berate people for expressing a view on a chatsite, you are going to be berating everyone for evermore.
There can be no argument from anyone, atheist or zealous fundamentalist, that this specific practice, raised by Mikey in this thread, derives its authenticity from religious belief - a belief that basically everything is the womans fault, down to her uncontrollable desires. Patriarchal mysogyny embedded into the DNA of all of the abrahamic religions.
People who comment here may be tirelessly engaged in works over here or in Africa or anywhere else - or they may be doing nothing directly - they may be too occupied with their own family, their won work to do anything - but that does not deny them the right to comment on the situation and criticise the religions that impart this nonsense to its followers.
As for the site being 99% atheists - i think thats a slight exaggeration.Of those who regularly contribute to, say, R&S on the subject I grant you the majority are probably atheist, but there are several regulars who make counter-arguments. And of course we can have no way of knowing the beliefs of the lurkers and readers and sporadic contributors.
Your posts actually sound vaguely defensive -I think because you see such criticisms offered here as being, indirectly, and attack on your own religious beliefs.
I will agree with you on one point though- the more involved people get in such issues, the more they contribute, the sooner such practices can be consigned to history. Becoming an activist for something is of course very often sparked by reading chat and debate forums and contributing to them.....
