I expect that 'too late' or 'not enough' or 'Muhammad was a paedo' will no doubt spread across the pages of AB, but this should be acknowledged as a positive start?

Why do you think there are women's refuges full of white women. The asian male is no better (and probably no worse) that his white counterpoint. People have been ignoring, not believing rape and sexual violence in Brotish communities for centuries. Now we have a significant number of Asians in our country then we are seeing similar characterists in them.
sqad, read the case, many are, were in care, they get picked off like flies, vulnerable, very young, and can be treated with such savagery because no one seems to care, certainly care homes are coming under fire for letting these young people come and go. It isn't cut and tried, how many more times.
i am aware of women's refuges, they have been picking up the pieces for a long while of men's misogynistic attitudes for years. However this has been changing and now we are faced with more people from the sub continent, or from Africa who's partners seem to have the same attitude or worse, believing in the patriarchal system completely. watch the programme i mentioned, truly shocking.
sir.prize, please be so kind as to explain how the religion or culture creates sex offenders. Do you think the same of Victorian England, with it's insistence on church -going, it's emphasis on Christianity (such that Jews could not be MPs and an oath, not an affirmation , had to be used) ? The Victorians' law was that a wife could not own property; it was all her husband's ; and no woman could vote. Women were inferior beings. Did that Christian culture create sex offenders?
its endemic in India, and no different in Pakistan. The young Asian British woman who presented the programme seemed genuinely shocked at the attitudes of the men in India, She has been brought up here with more enlightened parents, as she said thank heavens for that. It stemmed from the vile rape case not long ago, a young student was beaten, raped by a gang of men on a bus. It has caused outrage as it should, but the defence lawyer for the men said the girl was partly responsible for being out, with a lone male, a boyfriend, friend, not sure which, jaw dropping in it's barbarity.
culture of misogyny where men rule the roost, and women have little or no value, that do you. same attitude prevails in UK, not so much now, but it's still there.
yes it did create sex offenders, Victorian Britain was a hypocritical place to be, more prostitutes on the streets of London than anywhere, 80,000, was one figure i read. not to mention child sex adult gangs, same as now, poverty was rife, so the two almost went hand in hand. Christianity didn't do much to save those women i am sure.

i find it very odd that people have to be told not to do it by religious leaders - do you think there will be people who thought it was ok to do it, but now are thinking "i'd better not because the imam has told me not to"??
Question Author
Quite possibly bednobs. Is that a bad thing?
Thanks Sir.Prize,

I had no idea the Assyrians were such experts on islan in Britain.
Neither did I, Gromit.

Well if you keep pointing towards the hills, people won't look inside your door.

Bednobs,

I think it is more like a 'CrimeStoppers'. It is not aimed at the evil men who do this, rather at the people who may know what they are up to.

It is a start but the premise is stupid.

//opening with a reminder that the Koran “forbids sexual indecency, wickedness and oppression of others//

One does not need a book to know that such behaviour is fundamentally wrong.
Question Author
Essentially the Qur'an is a guide for Muslims in their everyday lives. So this serves as clarification via sermon.

I guess similarly even though we know certain things are fundamentally wrong, laws are written down and put in place to act as guidelines for people in most societies. A sort of reference requiring interpretation and clarification from legal bods on a daily basis.
Moreover it is that book which contributes to the problem. Despite anything it says about respect, it specifically states that women are of lower value than men.

The Koran is a pile of vile misogynist cr@p written by primitive ignorant arrogant men.
. . . and any reasonably educated and who respects society will not join a gang and sexually abuse young girls.
// i find it very odd that people have to be told not to do it by religious leaders - do you think there will be people who thought it was ok to do it, but now are thinking "i'd better not because the imam has told me not to"?? //

No, but there might be a few that will be less likely to turn a blind eye to what they suspect others of doing. It can't do any harm.
