the unions will indeed inconvenience people, Londoners and visitors alike, millions who come to our fair, or not capital to see the sights, and the carnival, which attracts people from around the world. great advertisement for us isn't it, when like other bank holidays, they will say out brothers and sisters, unless of course you pay them oodles to actually work. I see so many staff at stations, hanging about doing nowt, dare ask them for help, advice, or a hand with the luggage if struggling, as i sometimes do.
by the way our transport system is constantly besieged, upgrade work at weekend which has been going on for years, and no end in sight, often takes out entire lines, so you chop, change and then give up because as i did try and get to X found that four changes of trains would have got me there, but i decided for the better part to call it a day and retire home. It's a packed, dirty system, that's the underground, and the rest isn't much better. I don't use it much these days for some of those reasons.
Just checked the story again. I thought it said 43% of the returned ballot papers were in favour of the strike.
Reading it again I see it's 43% of the total balloted.
43% of the 'total' ballot can ,of course, give you a legitimate majority.
That figure being bandied about is a pretty dreadful piece of obfuscation. Confused me,anyway. So apologies to Bob Crowe. Its a 100% turnaround from me.
Driver only trains? I thought they were already everywhere apart from the long distance routes. No guards on our trains for at least 25 years now.
Did this "crimeathon" happen? Other than the usual annual number of arrests, I haven't seen any reports of mass lawlessness.
no idea if it was a crimefest, they aren't going to stop the carnival any time soon.
If Quiz monKey comes back to this thread, I completely agree with you. If you re-read my post knowing the misapprehension I laboured under I hope its clear I'm not a union hating, swivel eyed, right-wing nutter.
no guards on the trains which is a pity, it might stop some of the poor behaviour, like the guy smoking on the underground train and constantly spitting on the floor, disgusting..
