Every draw we opened seemed to have money stashed in it, usually in an envelope with what it was for neatly written on it for example £xx for so and so's birthday, which was nice because it all got to where she wanted it to go
I suspect that one of the reasons why some older people distrust banks and building societies because they would have known people (their own parents for example) who had their savings wiped out during the 30s.
