I would be very careful to feed my children anything that had been reduced from 85p to 19p.
But as the father said mistakes do happen
/// Mr Khan said: 'I put it down to human error, everybody makes
mistakes. ///
But what seemed to be the straw that broke the camels back was the fact that he was offered a bottle of Champagne as compensation, since Muslims don't drink????????
But anyway the manager didn't say her had to drink it, he could have sold it on.
But he was lucky to be offered any kind of compensation from Morrisons because on numerous occasions I have been charged incorrect prices on goods that have been labelled half price or buy one get one free etc,
Was I offered compensation for having to drive back to the store to obtain a refund? No instead I was forced to queue at customer services and then take part in cross questioning, then wait while a store worker checked out the offer on the self, before finally receiving the balance of cash back.
Surely Mr Khan there must be plenty of Muslim shops who would be sure to serve you and your family with Muslim acceptable food, but I don't know about being given a 66p discount on a 85p item.

When a newspaper uses the word 'fury' in a headline, it doesn't necessarily mean that the protagonist or antagonist in the story was actually furious.
For 'fury' read 'annoyed'.
Newspapers use a language which is relative to newspapers, and not the real world.

Really?
I thought that most people would know what Muslims, Jews, vegetarians and vegans do and don't eat.
If I were throwing a dinner party and a Muslim were one of my guests, I would know straight away to prepare a halal meal.
Same if a Jew were coming - I would immediately think, "Okay...their meal would have to be kosher".
I would be really surprised if the vast majority of adults in this country in 2013 didn't know about halal, kosher etc...

Naomi is right.
Why does he think that everyone has a wide knowledge of things like ... his religion.
He is terribly intolerant of people who don't have that knowledge.
I'm just thinking here ...
When I come across people who are intolerant of others, merely because they have a more limited knowledge ... how would I describe the intolerant person?
Thinks, thinks ...
Oh yes ... an arrogant pr!ck

Sorry JJ- I was just talking in general terms about how papers use the word fury to mean anything from 'a little disappointed to really angry, so I never just go off the headline. Whether fury was the right word here I'm not sure, although it wouldn't surprise me if the paper put words in his mouth.
But I agree with you, as I said, about some people seeking out opportunities to be victims

Wow, let's not carried away joggerjayne afterall it is a story from the daily fail otherwise known as the "pinocchio" of newspapers.
My guess is that Mr Khan didn't want any trouble but then several dailyfail jumped out from their hiding places and started their well known art of "Extreme truth bending"
Mr Khan "Sorry but you've made a mistake but i don't want any fuss"
Daily fail vultures "What's that? You're insulted, offended and want death to all morrison stores"
Jot, jot, bend, bend, sell sell sell.

I’m afraid I’m becoming a little tired and irritated by constant stories in the press of innocuous events that have “offended” Muslims. If they have strange foibles imposed upon them by their religion that’s their affair. But they cannot expect the rest of the population to act as if they are treading on eggshells every time they deal with them. Many religions have things which are not permitted. Jews must not eat shellfish, Hindus must not eat beef.. But it’s not the end of the world if they are offered some.
Strangely I find some of the things that Muslims do extremely offensive (wearing face masks in public, refusing to shake hands with the opposite sex and slaughtering animals without first stunning them immediately spring to mind). But hey ho, life goes on and if Muslims have no consideration when offending me they can scarcely complain if I have little interest in their sensitivities. I think those resident (and just visiting) the UK need to understand that they are living in a country where many people eat pork, drink alcohol, shake hands as a greeting regardless of gender and where the women do not routinely mask their faces when out and about. As a result they may come into contact with people whose behaviour may sometimes result in their religion being contravened.

Dear Mr Khan,
Welcome to England: Home of the bodge-up.
Also home of Diversity Awareness Training (~£500 per head direct charge, plus 3 half days of non-productivity for your selected employees)
Incidentally, I am trying to compute how old this Morrisons manager would have to be in order to have evaded school-administered cultural awareness training, plus the last 40 years' worth of hints from TV, radio, film etc.
(And yet I can't help siding with JJ here. The 'cultural insenitivity' stick is used to clobber us over the head on an all-too regular basis).

here probably - although i don;t see his point about the champagne being offensive unless he told them when making the complaint about the pasty that he was muslim, if he didn't then the supermarket weren't to know

only a suggestion from manager. Dont they care that the DManager could lose her job because of the Khans laziness to monitor what kids consume. They must be sikhs (veggies) coz muslims drink alcohol. Cheese isnt veggie nor is the pastry = Khans are cheats & after easy compensation.

the meat pasty instead of cheese is terrible i agree and i too would be angry at that - but the bubbly?
accusing the staff of being lazy and ignorant just because they dont know all about muslim culture, is just ridiculous.
most people dont learn the ins and outs of other cultures if its not relevant to your life - why would they expect this person to know?
