Do you welcome Pope Frank's comments, or..or...seriously - what the hell is going on?

Conservatives introducing same sex marriage and now the Pope reigning back on all the hellfire rhetoric!

Who the hell is left for us leftie liberals to hate (apart from the Westboro Baptist Church).

He certainly seems to be more of an ordinary bloke than any Popes in the recent past - understands what the real world's about, it seems.
It's certainly a refreshing change from the previous one.
Shouldn't worry, the leftie liberals have always been able to find an object for their self-righteousness!
Could It Be...that Somehow...we've Got A Pope That 'gets It'???

Gets what ?.
// Gets what ?. //

Gets the fact that the church must adapt or die.
No. Not until we get a pontiff that apologises for all the child abuse done under the trust of the Catholic Church.
Fair play to him. It's a start.
Words are cheap.

Gerald Ratner might disagree with you...
The difficulty with any position of authority is that - in order to achieve the hifghest positions, you have to have proved already that you agree with things the way they are - boat rocking is not encouraged.

That's why I am unlikely to be considered for the post of Defence Secretary, I believe that killing people is immoral, and spending millions of pounds investing in ways to do that is an appaling way to behave.

So it is highly unusual to find a Pope who not only appears not to want to push the church further back than the 1300's, but is actually willing to address some of the issues it faces regarding its future.

As advised - it is a start.
Yes, odd isn't it? But good on him for this attitude:

"Last week, Bishop Thomas Tobin of Providence, Rhode Island, wrote in his diocesan newspaper that he was "disappointed" Francis hadn't addressed abortion since his papacy began six months ago, according to AP.

Francis said it was not necessary to speak out on such issues."

and:

"The teaching of the Church, for that matter, is clear and I am a son of the Church, but it is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time.''

so you don't think we should have any defence then andy?? Would you not defend yourself against attack?
Separate debate TTT. Andy was making a point about this post.

TTT are you on the wrong thread here?
just curious

Apologies TTT - I have re-read my post, and realised what your response is about -

Would I defend myself against attack?

Yes, but I would not sanction billions of pounds constantly updating a nuclear capability that is already fit for purpose, and has been for generations.

if I want to wipe Russia off the face of the earth, does it matter if that happens with 'more efficient' missiles? I suggest it does not.

And if we are locked into a wasteful game of oneupmanship, it is time we followed the current example in Syria - Call-me-Dave was prevented from sending in troops, and hey presto! Negotiations are making headway, and no-one has had to die carrying them out.

As it ever accrued to you that there might be religious 'LEFTIE LIBERALS' who might have their own views on homosexuality, it is not compulsory to toe the gay lobby line you know, regardless of one's politics.
Not compulsory AOG - are you sure?

To be a 'RIGHT-WING BIGOT, it's embedded inthe DNA that you have to hav an in-built sense of moral superority, and the complete inability to empathise with anyone who does not live their lives as you do - some things are simply not to be messed with!
