A YouGov poll reveals that 69% of the nation thinks that the Daily Mail owes Ed Milliband an apology for trashing his father.

And more tellingly, 57% of the paper's own readership think the same.

In what other circumstances could a national paper get away with dancing on the grave of a war hero?

I fail to understand why people keep trying to link the "disrespect" shown to Thatcher on the announcement that she was dead and the allegations made by the DM against Ralph Miliband. Please explain, because otherwise to me it seems you are just trying to create a false equivalence in an effort to rationalise what the DM did. Even if your false equivalence were...

I don't think I've missed the point.

It Daily Mail ran a smear campaign?

It wasn't a "campaign" ... it was a single article ...

(Until Ed started to portray it as a "campaign")

Good PR on Eds part jj.
Lol em, are we of a super human species?
it is, it makes him look good, good son, defender of the family, i am pretty sure cameron would do the same in his place as i would over mine.
Brenden, it gets up my nasal passages to keep on hearing about this case, and the Mail, and how it's so vile, come on guys don't read it if you don't like what they say, i honestly don't care about Milliband or Pere, tough.
Look good, defender of the family em, this is the same man who stabbed his own brother in the back to obtain the leadership of the labour party. I am in your corner em.

No - that's not quite right.

First of all the Mail ran the story, and Ed Milliband asked for a right to reply.

They granted his wish...

...and then reran the original story on the same page as the rebuttal.

Oh, and then they published a big lead article stating that they weren't sorry.

And then after that, the Mail On Sunday sent reporters to his uncle's memorial to pester family members.

And here's another thing...in the original story, they published a picture of Ed's father's grave with the picture text: GRAVE SOCIALIST

I mean...for...God's...sake!!!!
I think it is called game, set and match.

some on here deny there was a coup d'état - but David was not too proud to write for the Mail from time to time, why do that if you hate the paper, or is it just as it suits..
My post was for em.

Unless you work for, or are a partial owner of the Daily Mail - why would anyone's opinion of the paper affect you?

I read The Observer every week, and couldn't give a monkeys what people think about it, and it's journalistic standards.

Actually, I doubt we'd ever read about the Observer's journalistic standards - because it's got standards.

Do you mean that Ed used duplicitous means to win the party leadership?

Or do you mean that Ed represented the left-leaning wing of the party and David the right-leaning and that it was down to MPs and the unions to vote openly?
has it got standards or you just like to think it does.
Ed got in on the union vote, and they will turn on him if he doesn't come around to their way of thinking. you have seen that from the old guard of the unions, they have veiled smiles, all pals, but some think Milliband is a sell out.
// didn't some papers have disgraceful headlines on the death of Mrs T, didn't some people hold parties and glorify her passing, that is reprehensible to me //

Glad you asked that Emmie. No they didn't. Like your supposed photograph of Miliband and someone wearing a Dead Thatcher T-Shirt, it never happened.
it is the only paper that comes in for such a kicking, isn't the most widely read paper the Sun? why doesn't that come in for the same treatment.

Well, perhaps we should tot up the number of complaints made to the PCC about The Observer and the number made about the Daily Mail.

Did you know complaints against the Mail after they trashed the reputation of Stephen Gately (just after he died, and before his mother had had a chance to bury him) actually crashed the PCC website?
a lie gromit, there was another one, see if i can find it, are you suggesting they are photo shopped or whatever you call it

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1384726/Ed-Milibands-regret-link-Maggie-grave-man.html
how wide a readership does the Guardian and the Observer have, would suggest low, so if complaints do come in they will be low as well...

Why doesn't the Sun come in for the same kicking?

Is that a serious question?

Perhaps the Sun has better standards?
