A psychiatrist has said it may take years for the little rescued girl to get the criminal behaviour out of her system, as she will think it's normal to steal and attack people.

I agree DJ. The racism I was referring to was the sweeping statement "Gypsies don't bother with legalities, if they fancy something, they take it".
As I stated recently on another thread, Gypsies and Travellers are probably one of the most discriminated groups by police and society, but it doesn't seem to bother a lot of people, particularly the people that are constantly calling others racist, bigots, fascist and so on.

"Romany Gypsies and Irish Travellers are legally recognised as ethnic groups, and protected from discrimination by the Race Relations Act (1976, amended 2000) and the Human Rights Act (1998)"

how does this affect those who have come from Romania recently and are holed in places like Hyde Park in the capital, set up camps, sort of shanty towns, if they are protected as you say, why do they not get help. Many are seen on the streets begging, and there seems to info from the police that they are involved in not just begging but theft - how widespread i couldn't say, some were asked if they wanted to go back, took the money, flight then promptly came back, some simply said they had nothing in romania, so were going to stay here, no jobs, money presumably?
this was months ago, could be worse now, some of the councils have asked for help over the problem according to one report. so they can come here, but if they have no job, prospects, money, what to do with them

Poilce in Ireland were called ,on a tip-off, to house in Tallaght where the found a blonde, blue-eyed girl of about 7 living with a Roma couple and several darker children The couple claimed the parentage of the child, claimed it had born to them in Dublin in 2006, yet no record supported this, and two hours later produced a passport for the child which did not appear to be of the child. A geneticist saying that was extremely unlikely that a Roma couple could produce a child of that colouring, the child has been taken into care . Tests on the Roma couple are awaited.
