Family and solicitor on Sky News now outside Coroner's Court giving another tale of woe about domestic violence/killing of this poor woman and her son as a result of failings YET AGAIN by the relevant authorities, particularly Derbyshire Police.

Another serious review is doubtless in the offing and no stone will be unturned to get to the bottom of why they failed so dismally, why agencies failed to contact each other blah, blah, blah ad nauseum infinitum......

//He was assessed by mental health workers and released after he was found to have no major mental illness.//
Plod cannot override the 'professional' and will be castigated (especially by some on here) if they did.
Of course they wil all learn, just like last time, the time before that, and the time before that and .............

Here's the thing...kids are going to be raped and murdered, set on fire and starved.
Women are going to be beaten to death by their boyfriends or husbands.
It will always happen. It will never stop...and whatever the authorities say, it will continue. All they can do is to try and stem the flood. As you read this, a child is well on the way to being murdered.
I don't blame the police and social services...they do an astonishingly good job in the circumstances...where so many people don't even know their next door neighbours' names? It's a wonder that we don't see so many more of these cases.

From the media reporting it would appear that Plod deemed her at risk of possible murder but failed to tell the lady herself!
From the link:
They found that Ms Slack's death was in part more than minimally contributed to by a failure to impress upon her that she was at risk of serious injury or homicide by her ex-partner.
In the case of Auden, jurors found that in part his death was more than minimally contributed to by a failure to impress upon his mother that he was at risk of serious injury or homicide, and a failure to discuss with his mother adequate steps to assess the risk.
Call me cynical, but I think that might be why they are 'taking the hit' on this one!

I know what you're saying, but I see it like this - you could have the absolute best police, teachers, social workers etc etc...but all it takes is a tiny set of oversights and people die.
You know how I look at it?
You know that thousands of flights take off and land safely all the time? Well, every once in a while, one will crash and hundreds of people will die - and the reason may be as stupidly simple as maintenance staff using the wrong nut to secure a wing panel, which after a number of flights encourages metal fatigue.
Every time a flight crashes, the airline industry becomes fractionally safer. I believe this is true of the caring services...however, it will never be 100%...someone will always use the wrong nut...

I take a more simplistic look, particularly in this case.
Woman and child, in grave peril of death does not have the seriousness of that threat assessment impressed upon her.
At it's basest form, it still screams: Better safe than sorry.
That is a basic, fundamental failing that was a major contributing factor in their deaths.

Indeed Zeuhl.
It sounds like they might have said "Just keep your doors and windows locked, I'm sure it'll blow over in a day or two", when really they should have said "You might want to consider staying with friends at an undisclosed location for the next few months and keep a baseball bat handy".
