Chilldoubt - "Not sure who they are but I think you'll find when it comes to crimes of this nature, there'd be more than two people outraged and sickened.
Or have you a vested interest as you've interviewed him in the past?"
"I'm still waiting for andy to further enlighten us, given that he posted the exact same post on a similar thread, but I won't hold my breath.
Maybe he feels a little sad that someone he admired or has possibly interviewed has pleaded guilty to one ot the most heinous crimes imaginable."
First of all, apologies for the delay, I am still at work, and have been busy.
One point at a time - I don't doubt that anyone would be outraged and sickened by the details of this case, but that is not the point I was addressing.
My point was that any crime similar to this brings a hige wave of posts from AB'ers seemingly trying to outdo each other with their sense of outrage, and willingness to dispatch summary punishment, under the guise of 'justice' - the aforementioned 'Self-Righteous Brothers'.
My position is that I avoid such grandstanding because it is poitnless, and helps no-one. People are already outraged and angry, and do not need further stoking of their ire by such pontificating.
I am unsure what you mean by the phrase 'vested interest' because I have met (but not interviewed) Watkins in the past. I have also interviewed Gary Glitter, but i don't have a 'vested interest' - what ever that may mean, in his crimes either.
I do not 'feel sad that someone I have admired has admitted to these crimes' as you put it.
I am not a particular fan of the band in general, or their singer specifically, but as far as I am concerned, liking their music is not connected with my reaction to this news.
For the record, lest anyone be in any doubt - as the father of three daughters, and grandfather to five more children, my immediate basic reaction would be to cut this man into one-inch cubes with a rusty tin lid.
Because we live in a civilsed society, I must leave is fate in the hands of the medical profession and the judiciary, as is entirely appropriate.
But that has not stopped me popping along to the toilets in my building to shut myself away and cry some tears of impotent rage and sheer anguish at what I have heard.
I am a parent and grandparent first, and a music journalist second, and my connection with either has minimal bearing on this thread - except to say that i am unable to dwell on it for more than a few minutes without getting a severe headache becuase of repressed emotion.
Those who post on here about 'pulling the lever' or 'letting him lose with other prisoners' should not imagine for one moment that their posturing guff somehow sets them aside as chiefs of revenge and outrage - it does not.
Hope that's cleared up any lingering questions, but if you have more, please post away - always happy to respond.
