So now good old Cameron is going to polute our lands even more. why do we need this exactly? I thought our economy was booming?

The fact is, if we hadn't shut down the mining industry in the 1980s, we'd still have an enormous amount of gas in the North Sea. Instead, we've burnt it to generate our power and now need to look elsewhere so as not to be dependent on Mr Putin for our energy resources. Plenty of shale gas available in Lancashire and Yorkshire, but don't, whatever you do, try and get it out of the ground in Sussex or Kent. That'd upset Tory voters.
Try as I might, ukanaon, I cannot establish a link between allowing fracking and allowing immigration. If you want serious answers to your question I suggest you separate the two.
Methane occurs in ground water anyway and is easily removed in water treatment plants. It isn't a problem. If we gave in to every minority pressure group we wouldn't have any power sources at all. As long as controls are in place I can't see how it would produce any serious problems.
I'd like to know what 'toxic' chemicals are involved.
Why don't we buy theirs now and use out own in the future? The world is mad! Mind you the uk don't take care of their own they don't care. If they delayed it 10 years and limited energy consumption we might save the earth. People who think we can use and abuse anything we come across are
Yes our bills will only go upwards! With or without it. Why should we put our health at risk to make others rich! Save out natural resources until we are desperate for them and have a chance to make greener electricity. Franking is completely mind blowingly stupid in every way apart from greed!
ukan, why don't you tell us how you feel about fracking...with reasons.
By the way, someone getting rich is usually the only reason anything gets done. Anyone can stand in front of a gate with a stop *** banner or sit on top of a tanker with a bongo drum. Organising industry and generating income for the population takes a little more effort.
It takes a little more effort? Making our planet uninhabitable for the next generation is hardly benefiting the human race or any other species. There are other options but this is a good way to boost the economy. Banned in France but a French company doing it in our country? It's there for you I. Black and white
//or sit on top of a tanker with a bongo drum. //
Lol. Not as easy as it looks, jomilfi.
An anti-fracker argued, on TV (in front of millions) yesterday, that we should run all our factories using water. power, because,,,,,,,,
we used to. ;-/
So a French company is more enlightened than a left wing government led by a president who is more concerned about actresses than politics or his wife.
ukan, It was people promoting an irrational fear of nuclear power that put a moratorium on nuclear power in the UK which is why we need gas powered power stations and a gas supply to patch the consequent power deficiency. As you rightly point out France didn't give in to the anti-nuclear power protesters so has 80% of it's electricity generated by nuclear power stations. France has not yet had any nuclear disasters as far as I know so it seems to be safer than walking to the boulangerie.
I am seriously interested in what the risks of fracking are and how serious they are, do you have any real stats from countries that use it?
With nuclear there are calculated risks and thy have plans to control the radioactive waste. However with Fracking we at permanently injecting poisonous substances into the earth with no idea how this will effect us long term. It's a rediculous practice that should be stopped immediately. We have a me build power station Nuclear to start soon we have the option to wait for that and import electricity when some of the coal fired get moth balled.
