It's planning ahead. We need other sources of energy and this is a resource that's available. Many other countries are doing it on a large scale- US, Russia to name just two. Is it any worse than digging for coal or drilling for oil?
Factor, Mr Alba asked that very question, is it any worse than digging for coal or drilling for oil?

He would like to know what's used to get the gas and would it seep into the water table?
I may be naive but I'd trust the scientists and engineers to test very carefully for those things and for fear of litigation and bad publicity to also act a sfurtehr check. Some of the scare stories from the US of flames coming out of water taps turned out to be hoaxes
I think it boils down to "do you want the lights on" - the margins are getting scarily tight and a few years down the line it doesn't look very nice at all ....
it looks as though councils will be bribed to allow fracking and companies won't have to tell you they're doing it under your house

You would trust their judgement? It's injecting toxic chemicals into the earth. You actually think the government and engineers give 2 hoots about yours or anyone else's health?
Yes. We aren't the first country to try this.

Green tech we have!? It's about money and power. Also we have a lot of mouths to feed in this country
come to think of it, wind-turbines need to have deep 'roots' to be able to support the structure, whether they be on land or in the sea.

Wave power also needs structures built to garnish the energy.

I'm still not in favour of fracking though.
It's an important source of gas, it's being extracted throughout the world, we should not ignore this source of energy.

In jab 2012 tens of thousands of people protest against it and the gov stop it. Here in the UK A FEW THOUSAND STOP IT BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO busy worrying about how many immigrants are entering the country. We are slowly becoming the toilet of the world. Do I want the lights on?

Your bills will still shoot up and there will be lots of people who get rich. Not you though you will be faced with the potential health risks all in the good will of people getting rich.

IN France it is not permitted but the have spent millions in doing it in our country. What a laughing stock the uk is indeed.
I think we (and France) will be the laughing stock if we don't do it while other countries do and we have to rely on others to sell to us.
I'm puzzled as to why some dismiss it out of hand. Let's at least pilot it
> " We are slowly becoming the toilet of the world" and "TOO busy worrying about how many immigrants are entering the country"

I think a meaningful; discussion about fracking is difficult when points like this are thrown in
This is a question to those who don't want Gas, Coal, or Nuclear. How many wind turbines would the country need to replace the above?

Wrong it will give us more natural reserves in the future should we really need it then we can sell it to them. Look what happened with the north sea oil. This is what happened. The government got rich and told everyone they will never go hungry, the poor can get a house etc etc which are benefits. Well look where that has got us now. It has got us into so much debt it is unbelievable.

Britian is taking its last dying breaths buy allowing mass immigration and now by fracking. Desperately trying to cling on to anything it can. It will not last and we will be the toilet of the world mark my words.

Whty does France have to Frack? They dont becasue they ghad the brains to invest in nuclear which is far greener.
Its sad when people can not see the reality and blindly walk into a doomed island of chaos and misery
what a bigotted imite outlook you have. We are doomed as the toilet of the world because we haven't banned fracking and are allowing immigration, right oh! Just where is this utopia you seeK? I suggest you emmigrate there asap if they'll have you.
imite - limited - dam keyboard!
