The Constitution, properly read, does not give a general right to bear arms. The Supreme Court was asked to rule on the interpretation. Faced with the total impossibility, on practical grounds, of enforcing the true interpretation, the Court opted for the generous one. That was pragmatic rather than strict law. When there are so many guns lawfully in America, they had no choice.
