A tragic story with only 3 fatalities, so buried deep inside my newspaper rather than on the front page. When will our American cousins take action to restrict the availability of guns?

Presumably, not for a while yet. Especially as even in this country it seems as i there is a minority move towards easing the ability to get hold of one. Sigh...
Not our problem we have enough problems of our own regarding shootings.

Ask not for whom the bells tolls, AOG. If Farage had his way we'd be seeing the same type of outrage here.

I did wonder at first why you chose to enter a thread regarding a shooting in the USA, now I know.

Perhaps you would have done better to enter this in the anti-UKIP thread below;

/// Farage In Favour Of Lifting Handgun Ban ! ///
Yes Sandy -you know that AOG is infalible innit !!
It's ingrained into the American psyche it would seem.
I've never understood the defence made that it's people that kill, not guns. That is true, but guns make it that much easier to transfer the thought to the deed.

It seems to be seen by many as one of their fundamental freedoms, the freedom to bear arms and if I have the politics right, want to be politicians, presidents etc... are not likely to get far with an anti-firearms mandate.

we have a bigger threat from cars and other forms of traffic than to worry about handguns
from .gov website

In reported road traffic accidents for the year ending June 2013:

1,730 people were killed, a 3% drop from 1,785 in the year ending June 2012.
23,530 people were killed or seriously injured, a 5% decrease compared with the year to June 2012.
185,540 people were injured in reported road accidents, 7% fewer than the 199,091 for the year ending June 2012.
total reported child casualties (ages 0-15) fell by 12% to 15,920 for the year ending June 2013 from 18,166 for the previous year, with those killed or seriously injured down 11% to 2,080.
I hope the suggestion isn't that because of the road accident statistics we should therefore not be concerned about calls to legalise hand guns. Efforts to improve safety on the roads need to proceed independently of efforts to restrict the carrying of deadly weapons.
ichkeria remember when they wanted to bring in the new laws regarding people owning handguns

if we ban them we stop the baddies from getting them

did it ?

Criminals will always find a way to get guns. The current restrictions make it much harder for the likes of the Dunblaine and Hungerford killers to vent their spleen on the world by killing innocents with legally held handguns.
Dr Filth I am sure that some people may have said that it will "stop the baddies from getting them"
My objection, and I think the objection of most people to a relaxation of this law, is that it seems unwise, even reckless, to allow, even under licence, access to such dangerous weapons.
What's the definition of "baddy"? Were the Hungerford and Dunblane killers baddies" until the shooting started? "Baddies" can always get guns, and if there are more of them about the easier it will be for them to fall into the wrong hands. A bit like the idea of motorway service station pubs, tell me a positive reason why we should have them and I'll consider it.
hungerford was slightly different as he had 2 semi automatic rifles , these days the drug lords who are never short of a few quid tend to have a decent handgun and their minders mac-10's as the more modern semi automatic rifles are near impossible to get hold off

Dunblane school 1996. The gunman armed with four handguns
Hungerford 1987. The gunman armed with two semi-automatic rifles and a handgun
Sorry I'm not sure I see how any of that advances the case for the relaxing of hand gun laws. On the contrary ... :-)

ichkeria...100% right, of course. In my earlier thread some, some thought it was a GOOD idea to overturn the handgun ban ! Amazing but true.
they are trying sandyroe but be honest why would you not want a person to own a barrett m107

Thanks DrFilth...now who wants this stupidity in Britain ? If you do, vote UKIP !
"Not our problem we have enough problems of our own regarding shootings".[AOG] True, we get about 50 homicides (murder, manslaughter, child destruction) by firearm a year. That's for all kinds of firearm, except airguns. Not much of a problem, but a problem.
they won't, ever, don't be surprised, it's written in the Constitution
