Well this just about takes the biscuit, why isn't there certain qualifications a person should reach before being accepted in certain positions in the police service?

and what happens when some tea leaf makes off in his motor, has a crash then legs it across the road, lane, or countryside. And standing in a line at a demo, where there will likely be lots of physical contact, officers should still be able to deal with that.

so it;s ok to make vile remarks about someone you don't know, because she has a different viewpoint, denigrating her in this way doesn't make sense.
so you know this how, that is what i asked before, police officer, fire fighter, what.
emmie

Absolutely.

There are very few people I hate, but I would put her in that category. She is quite entitled to her beliefs, but when she comes after me, as a gay man, and tries to prevent my relationship from being recognised, well, as I said before, she can go Phuket herself.
she hasn't made it personal to you, her religious beliefs i expect are behind her comments. Same way for some Muslims who don't care for homosexuals, who denounce them as the work of the devil, or words to that effect.
emmie

I'm not trying to say that I'm a paragon of virtue, or that I am necessarily right...but in the same way that you can see the damage of FGM, I have worked with teenage gay people who have tried to kill themselves because of the crap that religious extremists spout.

They are poison.
emmie

Yeah...that's why I put her in the same bracket as Muslims who preach against gays.

And when someone says that gay relationships should not have any kind of financial or social protections - by voting against the Civil Partnership Act and every bill that gives any kind of protection to gay people...

Scum.
but don't just pick her out of the line up, there are far more vociferous people out there, who go out on to the street with their placards, and megaphones, denouncing gays, not right i agree, but she isn't the only one, i think she is a Catholic, though i don't follow religionm sure i read that somewhere.
And religious convictions don't wash with me - she could have abstained, because she felt that morally she could not vote for any bill that made life better for gay people.

But no.

She actually voted against CPs.

What kind of person does that?
Yes emmie.

She's a Catholic now.

She converted to Catholicism because she believes that the only people who are fit to be priests are in possession of a penis.

At the time, the COfE voted in favour of ordination of female priests.

So she left the Church.
And the reason I pick her out is not just because of her voting record against all bills which could possibly make life better for gay people, but also for her backing of 'gay cure' therapy.

Like there's a (insert expletive) cure for being gay. Like it's a disease.

I, nor any of my mates need curing of anything.

She makes my blood boil.
against women priests and is pro life, so a pretty much run of the mill Catholic.

emmie

Thing is - she wasn't a Catholic at the time.

She was an Anglican.

She converted.
in 1993 or so i read

DB, as to my asking, because you have stated categorically these as facts.
i find it difficult to equate somebody saying something as fact, without a link or some personal experience to back it up. One assumes that there has to be a level of fitness in the emergency services, and some of the male police officers i have seen would not have been considered once for the police on the grounds of height restrictions.

so the tests made easier, ok fine,
