One may not agree with Nigel Farage's politics but he did not deserve to be put up as the sacrificial lamb and verbally insulted on a light treated satirical show such as 'Have I Got News For You'.

The whole show was presented as an attack on Nigel Farage, how he managed to laugh things off I do not know, I wouldn't have blamed him if he got up and walked away in disgust.

But it didn't stop there even at the end the show's host actor and ??comedian?? Stephen Mangan had to have a dig at the Tories and the Lib Dems, but strangely nothing malicious aimed at Labour, but then we have come to expect this from our left leaning BBC.

Well for once I agree with you, AOG, and nothing to do with party politics. It was quite pathetic of this show to single out one person and, frankly, they verged on being on dangerous legal grounds as to libel/slander. The woman, whoever she was, the one partnering Ian H, got no ribbing at all. He handled it okay though.....

AOG

What do you mean by 'level playing field' then?

Is it where right wing politicians are treated with the respect they deserve?
I'm reading all this and wondering just how abusive the programme was. It's no good - I'm going to have to find it and watch it.
you love arguing with aog, don't you,sp. What will you do if/when he goes?
We will just have to argue with you instead Svejk !
LOL Svejk !
lol. bring it on, mikey boy. ;o)
Svejk

I will have to argue with New Judge.

And that will be a terrible day, because hid answers are always so bloody well thought out/researched.
Okay, I watched it eventually – and I'm bemused. What on earth is all the fuss about? I've no doubt Mr Farage was expecting to receive a certain amount of 'stick', but it wasn't nearly as bad as some of the posts here would suggest. He handled it well and it's done him any harm whatsoever - in fact I would suggest quite the opposite. Clever man!
*no harm*

Exactly...it's a satirical news programme - and to be honest, I've seen much worse on there.

The episode after Angus Deighton was exposed by the papers as having dallied in drugs with hookers.

They absolutely tore him to pieces on the programme the following week.

It was painful/hilarious to watch.

I suspect some feel NF should have been given an easier ride - don't know why.
Neither do I. Fuss about nothing.
But you cannot miss an opportunity to accuse the BBC of bias even when the evidence does not support it.
Gromit, who are you talking to?
I am not sure how one measures "verbal abuse" and certainly on a programme like HIGNFY one expects to have the "mickey taken" but as an avid fan of the programme, i did get the impression that he received more than his fair share of "flak."

He handled it well and got a few more votes for UKIP.
The OP Naomi, not you.

// but then we have come to expect this from our left leaning BBC. //

The treatment of Farage on this show wasn't at all biased and is not proof the BBC is left leaning.

Thought he handled it and came out of it very well,
He did Baldric, he's very good at appearing just as a "normal bloke" despite his dodgy views and dodgy party.

I particularly enjoyed the "fruitcake or loony" section, where he even buzzed in to answer the question and describe the treasurer as a "fruitcake" :)

All very well played and incredibly dangerous to the other parties who lack anything like the good natured leadership Farage displays...

Who does Farage's PR? Maybe Clegg should give them a call?

I think he deserved most of what he got from Hislop as Private eye has a long history of exposing UKIP's dodgy practices.
i wonder one of these long days when someone will do an in-depth piece of the two panellists, Hislop and Merton, would their lives be held up to such scrutiny...
100 answers. Not bad for a 'nonsense' thread, AOG.;-)
