The more one reads of this tragic case, the worse it gets.

Imagine this poor mother away enjoying herself on holiday and then hearing the tragic news that her son had allegedly killed his teacher?

Aren't you missing something here AOG. The 'poor mother' is supposed to be looking after her child at 15 years old. She was apparently a lone parent, so the boy was left to his own devices? My sympathies are not with the mother here.

We do not know the full story yet but was this boy left "home alone" while his mother was on holiday? If so then she was extremely irresponsible. There does not appear to be any father figure around, does this have a bearing?

The mother was away on holiday and his father has a new child with new wife. He had nobody showing much interest in him. This is terrible for Ann Maguire's family and everyone who knows her and the end of the road for the boy who did it.

And now it appears, Anne went to work at the school on one of her days off (apparently she was only working 4 days a week in the countdown to her retirement). Truly sad.

That is yet another example of my comments being taken out of context, my comment regarding the out of term holidays was both a reply to YMB's comment regarding her leaving her son at home and the recent controversies over parent being fined for out of term holiday absences.

Perhaps before criticising me you should get your facts right about this 15 year old boy being alone at home, when he had a 19 year old brother at home?

I've also read that this brave woman shouted at all the kids to leave as she was being stabbed. What a waste of a good woman.

so the the parent was away, that happens, a sibling was in charge, a boy of 15 stabbed her to death, this is a truly tragic case. the only way i would feel some sympathy for the boy is if he has serious mental health issues, has that been forward as a possible reason, as i haven't read any more on this today

It's outrageous to put guilt on the mother just because she was on holiday. She has apparently brought both boys up singlehandedly, just a cruel twist of fate that this boy flipped when he did. 15 and 19 is perfectly OK to be without a mother for a week or so IMO.
