I'm not sure Sandy. Releasing on licence after half way through the sentence is for those less than 4 years. Its a long time since I did any criminal law so we probably need New Judge to tell us chapter and verse. He MAY be eligible for early release, but that will be on tag and subject to instant recall.
TY, Barmaid. To my mind it's the conviction that's the important thing. With that his reputation is in tatters and his victims can feel that they've seen justice at last.
do you still have to admit guilt and show remorse for your crimes before they let you out early ?
Well Harris didn't show any remorse and he's expected to let out early.
Someone has lodged an appeal with the Attorney General against his unduly lenient sentence.
5 years 9 months I make that 69 months. As it is over 4 years he has to serve 2/3rds before release can be considered it is NOT automatic as in a sentence of under 4 years. So after 23 months he can apply to the parole board for release.
He will probably get sent to an open prison as a cat D prisoner.
Sex offenders are usually safe in an open jail as the other prisoners know that harming them would mean anyone who hurts them would get immediate transfer to a closed jail .
According to sentencing remarks he will serve half.

Herewith link to sentencing remarks:-

Knandro.....you have said twice now that Harris is innocent, What evidence
do you have for saying this ?
Showing guilt for crimes seems a bit harsh if someone is innocent? Not that I think he is innocent.
inksplotter hence my question mark

/// and your point.......AOG ? ///

Is it all that difficult to understand my question?

Khandro, I too hope there is an appeal,
that sentence was far too lenient imho!
Extremely lenient. Yes - may have been in line with 1970s sentencing, but he wasn't sentenced then. If he had been, it may have saved other people. Avoiding justice for longer shouldn't give you a lighter sentence.
aog, your point seems to be that children should avoid being near paedophiles.
Methinks the defence won't ask for an appeal...
It will be a question of "Click Go the Shears" and he'll be wondering whether he ever sees the "Sun Arise" again. One thing's certain he'll sing "I Touch Myself" plenty of times or maybe the inmates will sort that one out.
Pixie, I cant see that AOG's point is that children should avoid been near paedophiles. I think the point is why did she let it go on until she was nearly 30.
It doesnt make sense to me either.
"With remission and the prospect of being 'tagged' how soon could he be released? Is two years likely? "

Unless he gains release under health grounds he will be released at the halfway point, i.e. thirty four and a half months. He is not eligible for the "Home Detention Curfew" tagging scheme as that is only available to prisoners sentenced to less than four years.

"Releasing on licence after half way through the sentence is for those less than 4 years. "

No that's not correct, Barmaid. It is the HDC scheme that only applies to those sentenced to less than four years (as above). (I think your later post gives the correct info.).All prisoners sentenced to a determinate sentence are automatically released at the half way stage. This release is automatic and unconditional.

Bindi is after her father's eleven million

and Bindi's fren' is after a bit less - 25 k I think.

and yes I agree that 25 y is quite long to pu up with something and then say, " well I didnt like it all ever, and certainly it has nothing to do with his turning down my reqyest for money to run the bird sanctuary "

...and we're back to somehow it's the victim's fault. How crass :(
bet his legal bill is for more than 25 grand
