Disregarding why this teenager was shot, the police say one thing and a rapper says another.
What I wish to discuss here is the fact that whether in America or the UK it would seem that if a black person is deemed to be mistreated by the police, a wholesale riot takes place, along with more violence looting and damaging of property.
This never happens if a white person is killed by the police (or at least I can never remember such a thing) why?

Sorry - your thread was somewhat derailed (I take part of the blame there).
Your original question asked:
"it would seem that if a black person is deemed to be mistreated by the police, a wholesale riot takes place, along with more violence looting and damaging of property."
Gromit has shown that this is not the case, with his figures which detail the number of blacks killed by the police where there were no subsequent riots and or violent protests.
Therefore, I think it's safe to conclude that there are some stories which simply catch on - almost like a meme.
One thing though - being killed isn't what most people would call 'being mistreated'.
Bizarre word choice.
Like calling a lynching 'a bit of a roughing up'.

Did you see this report:
http:// www.cen terforh ealthan djustic e.org/d jis_ful lreport _final. pdf
To summarise, the report concludes:
African Americans are eight times more likely to face jail for petty drugs crimes than whites convicted of the same offence, according to a law report.
The figures were uncovered in Cook County, Illinois, after an investigation into the belief that young black men in inner cities were disproportionately arrested, prosecuted and sentenced for drug crimes.
The report, by the Illinois Disproportionate Justice Impact Study Commission, found 19 per cent of black defendants accused of minor drug-possession crimes in the state were sent to prison, compared to just four per cent of white defendants.

/// As a comparison...imagine if you as an elderly white male were treated with suspicion and questions from the police every time you walked past a children's playground (because Operation Yewtree had focussed our
minds). ///
Not just because of Yewtree, but if it was know that there had been numerous elderly white males approaching children outside a particular school gate, being innocent I would have no problem with the police stopping me and questioning me, if it helped them at all.
If it became a regular nuisance to me, then I would keep away from passing those particular school gates.
/// I believe that's what it must be like to be a black teenager in certain
areas. ///
Well if they live in an area that has a very high level of gang shootings, stabbings and drug dealing, what can they expect if it goes towards protecting the innocent ones, they should welcome it.
/// There are some who actually *do* believe they react more violently than their white counterparts...it's an awkward situation. ///
Although it might not be political correct to say so, they do, ask any policeman that tries to arrest them, sometimes it will take a number of police officers just to hold them down when they go off on one, just because they have been stopped for some reason.

Define 'ethnic minority'?
And from my recollection - parts of Glasgow have always been pretty rough.
Also, going back to your OP...does Gromit's figures allay your concerns?
About rioting and protests when a black person is killed by the police?
In addition to that - if white people made up 45% of arrests after Mark Duggan, does that also allay your fears that riots fall along race lines?

Out of interest - do you think that black people are more lawless because they are black?
If so, do you think that the cause is genetics or environment?
...or something else?
Where white people have been seen to be violent - do you think, perhaps that it's something that they've seen a black person doing on telly, and are imitating it?
I ask, because you seem to have suggested that the white rioters after the Duggan shooting were imitating what they were seeing around them.
...which is terrifying isn't it!
