yonks ago, George III forfeit the income from his estates in return for a fixed sum from the government each year, with the government taking the profits; every monarch since then has made the same choice. today, the difference between the estates income and the civil list is a profit of £160m. if the monarchy were abolished, queenie would become mrs Windsor of acacia avenue, billionaire landlord, and the government would need to tax you £2.50 more each year to make up the difference.
52p out of pocket? or £2.50 out of pocket? your call.

If Mrs Windsor had all her estates handed back by the state and she was assessed for income taxes, like every other landlord, how much revenue would that generate? How much of the £2.50 would that offset, if you prefer to answer in that form.
For comparison purposes, how much do the Duke of Westminster's income taxes amount to? (the guy who owns large areas of London and the reason many "property owners" do not actually have the Freehold).
