Although since the boy apparently spoke of killing and going to jail "so as not to worry about life and money", a more appropriate punishment might be giving him a real job. Of course this is not possible. With someone so twisted in thought, though, there is reason to expect that he will never be released. And, if so, quite right too.

I guess that no-one took him entirely seriously. Which is understandable. I'd hate to be a friend of his at the moment... imagine the guilt you might feel, even though it's not justified, because of not trying to stop him or not bringing this to the school's/ police's attention. Never mind the poor parents, who are reported to have been responsible and mystified. And, presumably, heartbroken.
The entire case, as with any murder or similar horrific crime, is just awful for all concerned. Naming the boy achieves little other than making things yet worse for his family and friends.
