I repeat, it matters not a jot now, he has been examined ,sentenced , and is no longer a danger to any of us. I do wonder if we/some of us find it difficult to accept there are people who are just evil.?

I for one do not have any problem accepting that fact.

My cause for concern in this case is that this young man appears to be deeply disturbed, but I am perfectly willing to redress my view if he is found to be of sound mind, and simply evil, which is absolutely a possibility.

There is no such thing as simply being evil. The word covers a multitude of mental conditions which only the ignorant label evil as they have no comprehension of the complexities of the human psyche.

I once read that a psychiatrist is a person who seeks complicated answers to simple questions. I think those seeking to resolve this matter should bear that in mind.

The old 'are they mad or are they evil' debate will continue forever. It isn't going to be solved here.

The questions that are relevant to me are whether he was aware of what he was doing, knew it was wrong, and made the choice to do it.

That's really all that matters in determining how he should be dealt with.
