Well our local MP is in his late 70s, and is standing again.

I fear he is too old, and it is one of the reasons I won't be voting for him.
(along with him having had his snout deep in the expenses trough)

Pitt the Younger wouldn't have stood a chance in hell in AOG's world. PM at 24 and a brilliant exponent in setting up the future Empire's administration, never mind his role in what proved to evolve into Metternichian politics of that era as to Europe.

Yes I'm with AOG on a lower age limit. Many of the younger MPs appear to have less sense than they were born with. However, whether that will improve as they age is arguable.

Recent legislation prevents employers from discriminating on age grounds and in particular dismissing a person simply on the basis that they have reached (say) 65 is now much more difficult. So they can hardly start to impose age restrictions in the House of Commons.
