James Cordon gets a gong.
Benedict Cumberbatch doesn't.

They are messing with our minds.

Like I said.... The consensus of opinion is that they are, and have long been, a farce. So why get so uptight about them?
I've no doubt that one day Cumberbatch will become a Knight. I doubt Corden will. That said, I'm pleased for him, he's written some good stuff and acted in it too and his Broadway stint was highly acclaimed.
They've always been rewards for retiring civil servants, political hacks and the like, part of a career path, not earned by any personal distinction.

Ithink Ab Editor should get one - Answerbank provides comfort, companionship and raises our spirits.

The Answerbank Editor is already an Earl. If he were to get an OBE, that would make him an Earlobe?
I was led to believe 'he' is currently a she. Is that not so?
Nice to see Dame Mary Peters moving up another step towards royalty though. And it's only taken Wendy Sly 30 years since her Olympic silver to get an MBE :-)
What I can never understand is the fact that they get awards for being in the enviable position of doing what they enjoy and getting paid very handsomely for the privileged.
how James corden got an award for drama is beyond me....hes one of if not the hammiest actors Ive ever seen...as for comedy, bleh......

that one award alone sums up the whole awards farce
A 103 year old Sikh marathon runner gets a BEM, and a rap DJ gets a MBE for promoting music, Oh my Lord, save us from this Crap!!!!!!
consider it done, trt... I have agreed, with a nod and a wink in the highest quarters, that you won't get one any time soon.
Jimmy Savile had an OBE and a Knighthood.
Rolf Harris had a CBE.
Cyril Smith had a MBE.

Given that the procedure involved in putting people forward for gongs can allow those three perverts in under the wire, I wonder why we still bother with awards at all.

presumably the queen was unaware of Harris's activities, since she got him to paint her. Pretty well everyone was unaware of them. I don't know how you think the honours committee should have found otu about them.

On the other hand, everyone knows what Fiona Woolf has doen wrong. It's improper that she should get a damehood, even for "being Lord Mayor".
If these awards were mostly uncalled for in the past.......surely this is the time to overhaul the whole thing......Joan Collins a dame?.....charity work? I hear you cry....well maybe if she has gone above and beyond......but I nearly choked on my wheatybangs this morning when it was mentioned she went to RADA.....bliddy heck.....if what she has produced is called acting then Benedict Cumberbatch should be in line for immortality.
JNO...I agree that not many of us knew about Harris, but Savile and Smith abused children for years and years....long before they received their gongs.
In the case of Savile, it is inconceivable that the powers to be were unaware of his crimes, as he now referred as Britain's most prolific sex offender.

Actually, the Queen has no say whatsoever in these things. By the way, it was Lord Steel, David Steel as was, that nominated Smith. Perhaps Steel should have listened to all the rumours that were thick on the ground about the gross amount of Smiths paedophile activities first. If he was unsure, he could always have contacted MI5, After all, they interfered and stymied Police investigation into Smith, long before any awards were made.
AliceTickband....lol ! I agree....Collins is right up with Maggie Smith when it comes to acting talent.
I see no one has mentioned Cressida Dick. She was the mastermind behind the murder of John Charles de Menezes and what about Esther Rantzen, what did she know about Jimmy Saville et al? IMHO these awards should be definitely done away with.
I'll look James Cordon up on the net (another one I've never heard of). Can't be bothered with most, but I'm glad that, much lower down the lists, there are selfless people working for others who get some sort of recognition which will cheer them.
They have a place, whether the lefties like em or not, over the years the numbers of people who do a lot of good in society have been recognised in increasing numbers, that's a good thing.

I did note a few friends in the Military lists being acknowledged for their efforts
Vomit-why would you want to honour Cumberbatch ?
Sorry Gromit !
