Annie was previously a white girl with ginger hair, now a black actress is portraying her nothing wrong with that one may say, but then it is when this kind of thing kicks off.

What will be the fall out if we ever get a black James Bond, which has been suggested?

Kinda means that you are no better than those complaining about Target's advertising really, doesn't it?

If ummm had said, "I would watch Bond being played by a black man, but I have refused to watch it with any white actor", that would be different.

So, the racial aspect is something you have inferred.

Actually ummm...I have to say - you're missing out...'Skilful' is by some distance the best ever Bond film (IMO). In fact, it's a great film, not just a great Bond film. Javier Bardem (the villain in Skyfall) is the best Bond baddie in decades.

mushroom25 - I brought up the reference to Star Wars because I think it's relevant...we frequently see posts on AB complaining about racial sensitivities, and the Star Wars story is exactly the same.

...although it would not warrant a post because it centres on the complaints of the ignorantatti and racists who don't know what they're talking about.

Just to make it clear. I've only seen snippets of bond films and what I've seen isn't to my taste as films go. Daniel Craig doesn't float my boat but I really liked Idris Elba in Luther so I'd be more inclined to give the film a chance if he was in it.

Still don't understand what is racist about that. White woman in a relationship with a white man likes a black actor. I'm sure there are plenty of black actors, as well as white ones, that I'm not too keen on. It has nothing to do with colour.

I didn't like Skyfall much. Various tech geeks complained about the plot point where the new Q plugs evil dudes laptop into the system without once stopping to think that, you know what, it might have some malware on it... not particularly convincing techno-whizzery there. Oh, well.

it's a matter of tense svejk. it didn't say it "is" ok to black up, but that in Olivier's day, many theatres of the day had little choice if they wanted a "name" for their play.

I don't think your analogy holds up.

Olivier was playing a character in a play who is black. The current re-make of Annie has cast a black actor in a role previously played by a white actor.

Olivier's motivation for wearing make-up to play Othello was in the interests of making his character believeable in the context of the play.

The makers of the new Annie's motivation was to try and be modern and right-on and inclusive, and clean up at the box office.

One spectacularly succeeded, the other spectacularly failed - I see no common ground for your comparison.

Woman assassin is told to take the bloody shot, she does, she hits Bond.

now she should shoot the villain, she doesn't, despite have 12 seconds to do so. If she had all those other oo's would not have died.

Why wasn't she sacked?
