Annie was previously a white girl with ginger hair, now a black actress is portraying her nothing wrong with that one may say, but then it is when this kind of thing kicks off.

What will be the fall out if we ever get a black James Bond, which has been suggested?

Did olivier play othello on stage?
a black annie a black james bond , why oh why does this even have to come up in conversation ? we are all human beings born the same die the same , when i meet someone for first time i dont mentally think to myself oh shes a white person or shes a black person shes just a person, a human , can we not watch a film and if the actor or actress is good enjoy it for what it is not say oh they were good for a black actor /white actor, to much emphasis on colour --- rant over
yes - the film was adapted from the National Theatre's Othello, staged by John Dexter, with the same cast.

The fact is - when you take a long-standing cultural icon like James Bond, or a famous fictional character with a set image like Annie, and discuss changing them significantly, that is going to generate discussion - and that is why they are being discussed - on here as well as elsewhere.

Changing the ethnicity of the actor(s) involved is going to cause debate because that is the way society operates - it's not as simple as an individual reaction to someone of another race.
I wouldn't argue with anyone who would not want a black James Bond.
Perhaps we could have a remake of Roots and have a white man playing Kunte Kinte.

Just in the interest of balancing the books of course.
Kunta Kinte would have to be a black actor, ymb.

I was more thinking something like Stephen Merchant as Shaft!
mushroom, my remark was to Sandy. You just got in the way.
In Skyfall, Miss Moneypenny is played by a black actress.

Was there a problem with that?
I see no problem in casting characters like M or Q as different sex or colour. Because in reality, the character code named M can change such as Stella Rimmington becoming head of MI5. If Q were to be cast with a black actor, then that would be fine. It would even be OK if the operative designated as 007 could be black if James Bond died and was replaced by another agent who was black.

But James Bond is white, and it would be a nonsense to cast a black actor, even if that actor was exceptionally good. Bond has a fictional past and a history going back 23 films. And he is most definitely white.
Like Christian Bale as Moses?
sp, that discussion has been had already. there aren't that many actors of the (believed) more accurate ethnicity and had ridley scott cast such an actor to play moses, the film would have been impossible to finance.
sp, Just for clarification are you saying a black actor could play James Bond?
Idris Elba playing Bond would be unreal. MI6 doesn't employ black people, only agency cleaners. Idris would need rapid promotion, which is unlikely to happen.

Really?

There aren't enough non-White actors to play non-White roles???

That's a shocker.

-Talbot- I would be happy with Idris Elba playing Bond...if he were a bit younger.

This will come up again in 2015 when the new Fantastic Four is released.

I am simply not that bothered.

Others might be. That is their choice.
//There aren't enough non-White actors to play non-White roles??? //

read my post again SP. I didn't say what you implied, but that there aren't enough non-white "names" to encourage financial backer to finance the film. a black actor in that role would have attracted the same criticism.

Christian bale as moses? Idris Elba as Moses? ethnically inaccurate but box office hit material. Ahmed Hegazi as moses? ethnically correct, but not bankable.

/// I have no idea what is in ummm's mind - which is why I used the word 'may' twice in pondering her potential position. ///

But then didn't you put /// The issue of his skin colour, or that of the other actors is not in sight in her view ///

Perhaps before taking me to task you should have put "The issue of his skin colour, or that of the other actor is PERHAPS not in sight in her view"

/// I have not 'set myself up' for anything - I simply put forward a potential point of view. I - and you - am perfectly well aware of ummmm's ability to express her own views perfectly well, she doesn't need me to speak for her ///

Then perhaps you should not have spoken for her, I would then have had no reason to accuse you of setting yourself up as her spokesman. (or should that be spokesperson these days?)

So are you going to answer my points?
