I think it has a lot to do with people going to A&E for non-urgent treatment or for things that should be treated by the GP.

My niece works in A+E at the weekends, as a Nurse and she tells me that lots of people are turning up who should be going to their GP.

What are they suppose to do if they can't get to see their GP? Especially the vulnerable.

Put a big hulk of a GP on the doors - with an even bigger pair of security guards with him.

No-one even gets in who could be dealt with by a GP or Pharmacist or Minor Injuries clinic.

It's called Triage. It needs to be ruthless and better.

Inaccessible GPs are a problem - but it should be dealt with by forcing them to increase capacity and opening times. Not by *** up A&E.

How long is this present regime going to blame Labour for everything ? The Tories have been in power for over four and a half years now ! It is that record that they will be judged in May.

People will die (probably have done already), because selfish, lazy people are clogging up A&E when they have the sniffles or a bit of an ache.

Make it plain that it won't work & they'll find a more appropriate solution.

A young house surgeon recently qualified, one week on call, second week second on call for A&E. Called into A&E because they cannot cope....waiting room packed, patients spilling out onto the steps outside and into the road..

2015?.....No 1960......over 50 yrs ago.

Casualty officers telling the patients A&E means just that...accident or emergency...powerful administrators admonishing the junior doctors.

Politicians refuse to upset the electorate and back the administrators.

The situation gets worse...then NHS 24......then walk-in centres....ANYTHING to give state medicine to the masses.

2004....Labour gives the BMA carte blanche to the GP's......more money......less on call, so the patients who have been used to medicine at their finger tips go to casualty.

Over 60 years and nobody, just nobody have dared to criticise state medicine...the NHS......nobody more than ANSWERBANKERS.

This is now a mess.......direct taxation cannot pay for the NHS.

My sympathy is for the POliticians who know what needs to be done, Labour and Conservative, but doing it would blow away their Political careers.

That is the heart of it, though I would also add that there are so many layers of middle management and poor IT, and anything called efficiency and customer service goes out of the window. They couldn't even plan/organise a pish-up in redman's local brewery, never mind an effective A&E.
