I hope it goes a lot further than apologies.

the council seems to be rotten to the core, but with it apparently so widespread how do you clear it out and start again?
SHAUN WRIGHT RESIGNATION STATEMENT

The Chief Executive of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire has announced that Shaun Wright has stepped down today as South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

Shaun Wright said: “My role as South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner has clearly become prominent in terms of public opinion and media coverage following the publication of Professor Alexis Jay’s report. This is detracting from the important issue, which should be everybody’s focus - the 1400 victims outlined in the report - and in providing support to victims and bringing to justice the criminals responsible for the atrocious crimes committed against them.

“With this in mind, I feel that it is now right, to step down from the position of Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire, for the sake of those victims, for the sake of the public of South Yorkshire and to ensure that the important issues outlined in the report about tackling child sexual exploitation can be discussed and considered in full and without distraction.

“As I’ve previously stated, I entered into public service to make a positive difference in South Yorkshire. Protecting vulnerable people and particularly victims of child sexual exploitation has been my number one priority as Commissioner and much progress has been made over the last two years.

“My intention had always been to continue my work with South Yorkshire Police and partners in making all the necessary changes and improvements required to safeguard and support the victims of these horrific crimes, and indeed to protect further potential victims through preventative actions.

“On resigning, I therefore truly wish the force, all the very best in continuing the journey of positive transformational change of those essential services which protect and support our most vulnerable people.”

The Chief Executive is working with the returning officer, South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Panel, and the Home Office on arrangements for a by-election and, in the meantime, the Police and Crime Panel will appoint an Acting Commissioner under the legislation to ensure smooth transition to new leadership. This is a decision for the Police and Crime Panel. The date of the by-election will be announced by the police area returning officer in due course.

In the face of such damning evidence, and the inability of the council to accept its failings, I would suggest that it is disbanded and elections are held, with none of the standing councillors being eligible to stand again.
/// It also cited difficulties within the council when dealing with issues of race and said it has been damaged by "misplaced political correctness" ///

Political correctness as such a lot to answer for.

no AOG - Rotherham council has such a lot to answer for

The Rotherham council cabinet has all resigned a/c to the one oclock news but I am not sure what that means

Pickles calls it "wholly dysfunctional".
I call it a blinkered disgraceful shameful shambles. Those councillors could no longer Not resign. Surely there are charges ( neglect of duties ???) which could be brought against them ? Or not ?
I wonder how many will simply move to another pointless job at another council.
and at page 148:

“I stepped forward on behalf of young people … It cost me my job and my career. I feel it was worth it. I am proud to have done so despite the cost to my health and financial situation… the machine at RMBC doesn’t care, won’t listen and simply exists to cover up and destroy.” A whistle-blower

The report makes really really depressing reading especially warning that this may not be a one off
// Surely there are charges ( neglect of duties ???) which could be brought against them ? //

There's talk of it, and I hope it happens.
It would be disastrous if those working on the Council were shuffled on to jobs with another council. Doncaster isn't all it's cracked up to be either. Initially Political correctness and fears of racism could be to blame for not bringing these matters to the light earlier. Now it seems as in ostrich - sand- buried, no-one wanted the responsibility.
Why is the public sector obsessed with racism? They would rather girls got raped than admit the glaring truth that the majority of the men were of Asian origin. It's high time that they stopped tiptoeing around ethnic minorities and treating them with kid gloves.

Just seen this in a local paper, notice anything about the names of the accused?

Yes typically British names.
Yes AOG that is quite witty but it depends where you live i suppose. No doubt the local councilors, police and social workers will be adamant it's not a race issue.
