OK how old are you? do you have any skills? Are you prepared to train? From your posts here It seems like you are wallowing in your current predicament. The world is not fair and if you get a leg up that is good fortune, you cannot expect it. You must help yourself, better yourself. OH advertised for a labourer a few months ago. He got some polish guys apply and also a local lad so he gave the local lad the job. This lad spent a large part of the working day checking his texts, would not work after 5 o'clock and no weekends even for 'cash in hand'. He didn't turn up one day for work and never returned. Someone told OH he had said he could make more money on benefits and 'dealing' (I'll leave it up you the imagination what he was dealing in ). OH now has Polish guy who works like an Ox, only stops when everyone else does and doesn't blink at being asked to work a Saturday or Sunday. The UK benefit system is too easy to abuse and has resulted in a whole generation who are lazy and expect to be looked after by the State.

Agree with Retro to an extent. Some years ago some young lad was whinging to me whilst I was serving him on my till that there were no jobs to be found ANYWHEREEEEE, I pointed out the advert we had up for a cleaner pinned to a wall he looked at me horrified and said "i'm not doing that!!"

gordie - think hard about your strengths. Can you drive? If not, then you somehow have to learn. You are literate - an advantage. Perhaps you need to 'think outside the box'. Have you tried volunteering of any sort? That gives you an edge. I knew someone who went to 'Slimming World', lost a lot of weight and then started running her own groups to earn a bob or two. Look around with an open mind and I wish you the best of luck.

Geordie have you tried Kleeneze or Betterware, you can deliver the catalogues and take orders from them. Not sure if available in your area, but if not all the better because there will be no competition.

All Cameron seems to be saying is that if someone who is unable to work because of a curable condition, then refusing treatment will lead to a cut in benefits. Sounds reasonable to me. Who would not want to be treated?

I didn't miss that point ummmm, but low self-esteem has a lot to do with being obese and I think gordie needs a bit of positive advice -so, OK I went off-thread to try to help a bit.

Jourdain...sorry, I meant that Gordie might have missed the point. It's aimed at obese people who's condition is causing them medical problems preventing them from working. Same with drug addicts and alcoholics. Go get help or get your benefits cut.

I agree that Gordie obviously needs support.
