Mikey, I've been offered it many times and always refused it, vocalising my view on its production. You've to be able to sleep soundly in your bed at night, and frankly, the thought of how it's produced makes me feel sick. A living creature forced to take in food until its liver swells to several times its normal size, and some folk think the creature doesn't...

Convenient and a lot quicker woofgang.
yes -its an unnecessary luxury food
The majority of EU nations only comply with the EU laws and regulations that suit them. By contrast, of course, as soon as a new regulation hits the books the UK sets up a new government or local government department and rapidly sets about "gold plating" the new rules.

Whether it is banned or not it will still be available and the French will use whatever method best suits them to produce it.

The bottom line is ... it's too tastytogetbanned.

Woo, sorry. Youknow what I mean.
sadly JJ I do although not from experience. Now go and hang your head.

(hangs head)
I think they way it's produced is disgusting and would welcome a ban on it. The sooner the better.
Well said Mrs Chappie !

Its obvious that you have not let greed cloud your judgement on this issue, unlike some. As somebody has already said, nobody is going to starve because they might not be able to buy Fois Gras any more.

///By French law, foie gras is defined as the liver of a duck or goose fattened by force-feeding corn with a feeding tube, a process also known as gavage.///

Mrs Chappie...well done for your evident disapproval and your bravery when offered it...we need more people like you !

I would give you BA if it were in my gift to do so.
Yes, hopefully!

With any luck we can stamp out animal cruelty bit by bit.

Well, I can live in hope.
Yes ban it, it is cruel and unhealthy too (cake needs to be next)

If people stopped buying it, shops would soon stop offering it for sale.
Vote with your feet and go to shops that don't sell it.
Question Author
Okay okay ...

mikey feels that mrs.chappie should have Best Answer.

So, on mikey's behalf, BA goes to mrs.chappie.
JJ...a wise choice !
Question Author
BA became your gift to give, mikey.

One has to be mindful, on an emotive and controversial topic, that the Best Answer should not just mean "most agrees with the original poster".
I agree, but Mrs Chappie made a impassioned argument, in much less words then I would probably have used ! Good discussion JJ....we need more debates like on AB !

We could, for instance, have a debate about whether factory farmed eggs and chickens are acceptable nowadays. I personally, haven't bought any chicken/eggs that are not free range for many years now, and I consider its a principle that we could all follow if we so minded.
This is good news for me, hope the ban goes through. JJ it matters not that 'some farms' rear the birds decently, most DO NOT !!
