Hi JJ
At a function I was at in London a couple of years ago, Paul Gascoigne was a special guest of honour.......he sat in a corner trembling and shaking, talking to himself, eyes rolling, and slurring his speech when speaking....It was a sad sight of a man, who once was a hero, to thousands upon thousands of people, and was now a shell of that man.....and the people at the function, myself included, were trying not to get eye contact and avoid him, just because we would have been embarrassed as what to say to the man.
He has serious mental issues, is an alcoholic and is not probably capable of remembering what happened yesterday,JJ, let alone what he says in a press conference etc.
I think you just overdosed on the LOL's, is all, JJ, and of course, you are only stating your opinion, which you are entitled too.

I am not surprised, but I am sad, at the cavalier way some posters on here jibe and dismiss Paul Gascoigne's mental problems, which absolutely include his alcoholism.
He was a man not especially blessed with intellect or strength of personality, who was totally unequipped to deal with the pressures that his God-given talent and its success brought him.
Mental illness can strike anyone, and I fervently hope that none of those who like to laugh and joke at his expense ever find themselves on the wrong end of it in the future.
But if they do, we can hope that they will find the support of family and friends that has been denied Mr Gascoigne once his fame and fortune dribbled away.
Scoffing from a distance is as easy as tapping on a keyboard, but it says more about those who do it than it does about the man who is suffering, even if his unaware of their amusement at his expense.
