Idiot Steps Down

"Three things happen when they are in the lab: you fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticise them they cry." and when you criticise them they cry.... And when Tim Hunt is critised he sulks and resigns... lol the irony.

Can I remind everyone that when we post on AB, we all agree to be behave in accordance with what it says at the top of the page ::::
"We understand that debates get heated, but personal attacks and abusive language will not be tolerated"
Its not difficult nor rocket science ( which girls can do as well these days ! )

Perhaps that should be extended to those others being critised, like the headline of this thread "IDIOT steps down"
mikey you have also used similar, so why criticise others?

My interpretation of events is that this man's points were perhaps made in a light-hearted manner, and he delivered them badly, and appeared to be serious when he did not intend to be so.
If you are going to speak in public, and have your words reported, then you are prone to the same trap that all of us face on here - your comments in print without the benefit of personal knowledge and face-to-face interaction may be misunderstood, and offence can be taken.
So it behoves the individual to take care over what they say, and how they say it, in order to attempt to steer clear of the sort of trap he has fallen into.
I do not believe it was an offence to resign over, but that is a matter for the gentleman concerned.
I think most people would see it as I have - he spoke carelessly, he was misunderstood, he apologised, he will have learned his lesson, and everyone can move on.
In view of jim's OP - he is clearly not an idiot per se, but academic intelligence is absolutely no protection against a foot / mouth interface.

Nice to see that all women do not take this ‘feminazi’ attitude, which strangely enough is supported by some male ABers on here, could it be that belonging to the liberal left, they feel it necessary to toe the party line.

If I am reading your post correctly - you feel that men should not be supportive of your 'feminazi' (amusing label BTW) enemies, simply on the basis that they are men - which infers the kind of sexism that such ladies are campaigning against in the first place!

AOG - from the image in your last post, it would appear that the professor is less than interested in the views of any lady (or indeed gentleman) - his nasal topiary, careless shaving technique and general inattention to his appearance speak of someone whose mind does not dwell on the impression he is making to anyone within his orbit - of either gender.
Respect begins with self-respect, maybe the professor should start there.

Mikey, //Well, Naomi, I have given you the opportunity to agree or disagree with Hunt, and I shall leave it at that.//
What on earth are you talking about? Are you setting yourself up as some sort of an adjudicator? I don’t have to agree or disagree with him, but I do defend his right to speak without the humourless politically correct attacking him. This is complete nonsense!

Oh, the irony!
