Why has the Gay community turned into bullies?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34121411
Ironically they have been delivered from this sort of thing themselves, now they make a "sport" of picking on people that don't embrace their lifestyle as enthusiastically as they think they should. It's going to take time for all the officials to come to terms with new rules etc, why go around trying to find people to bully?

Bullies. Imagine going about the place deliberately making people's lives a misery, just because the law is on your side. Why would anyone want to force a clergyman/official to, grudgingly, marry you? Doesn't sound like a very joyous occasion to me.

I thought she was just refusing to issue a marriage license....nothing to do with actually marrying them.
I don't see how it is 'bullying' the law is not on her side!
This is a case of an elected official refusing to do the job she was elected to do because of her beliefs.
And why should people be expected to put themselves out because of it.

/// I think the Gay community now specifically seek out targets to bully in this fashion. ///

Just as in the hoteliers and the cake baker's cases.
They didn't seek out the hotelier. They booked and were refused when they turned up.
Not sure, but I think that in the USA you have to apply for a marriage licence in the place you are living. As she is the only person able to issue licences in this town it is not as easy as just finding someone else to issue the licence.
ummmm

/// They didn't seek out the hotelier. They booked and were refused when they turned up. ///

That does not prove a thing, how do you know that they were already aware of that particular hotelier's views, so they purposely booked that hotel so as to get the response that they did?
And you really think people can be bothered doing that?

I thought they booked it because it was pet friendly.
I do not know if this still happens, but a vicar can refuse to marry a person if they do not live within their parish?

What is the difference?
ummmm

They can and they will, if they need to get over a particular point.
Presumably what happened is:

* She was elected to office
* The law changed
* As a result, she's no longer happy to perform the duties of her office

She is trapped by the system. It's not the Gay community who are bullying her - they are perfectly right to expect to be able to be married - it's the system.

It's quite simple. She needs, somehow, to not be in that office. She needs to be allowed to resign, or they need to run a new election as a result of the law change.
AOG, this is a totally different scenario to the hotel business.
I do not agree Talbot, I think quite a lot of Homosexuals are deliberately testing ''their rights'' in law & rubbing our noses in it
Ellipsis, why would she not be allowed to resign? Even the president managed to do that.

My guess would be that she wants to stay in her job while refusing to perform its duties.
How can you not agree?

The hotel couple could have sought out a hotel deliberately to have the confrontation.

Do you actually think the people trying to pick up their marriage licences got married just to have a bit of argy-bargy with this woman?
rubbing our noses in it?

I'm no part of this 'our'....least I don't think so. Can you give more info on 'our' please.
straight non homosexual people
And how is your paticular nose being rubbed?
TTT - First things first - it's not 'the Gay community', and they are not 'bullies'.

This is one specific couple with one specific issue with one specific council employee.

There is not 'sport' being made here, nor are they asking the employee to embrace their lifestyle, enthusiastically, or in any other way.

What is happening is that a couple are asking a council employee to do her job, and she is refusing for a legally invalid reason, and they are understandably angry and frustrated.

Rules change in all sorts of jobs, the role of the employee is to implement those changes, and not argue on personal religious grounds - you don't get to take time to 'come to terms' with changes.

How you parlay that into 'the Gay community turning into bullies' is frankly, a mystery to me.

/// Do you actually think the people trying to pick up their marriage licences got married just to have a bit of argy-bargy with this woman///

probably.
