France has implemented a rule that models should have a BMI of at least 18 (which is bloody skinny to be honest).

When you see these ultra-skinny models, do you wince?

Do you get angry that young women are having this presented as a physical ideal?

Or, like me - do you think "This is no different from what Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton looked like in the 60s"?

Why not use coat hangers?
I don't believe in banning and it has been mooted quite often before and never happened.

I do believe we continue to educate the young to know the difference between what they see in print or on screen is not always the ideal to strive for but to be active, healthy and proud of yourself.
Governments should be sorting out the refugee crisis and leave modelling agencies to run their own affairs
I guess if the modelling agencies get enough girls to kill themselves through virtual starvation more room for refugees and your self satisfaction then?

I've just heard from the AB Editor that you've won this week's 'Shoehorn Immigration Into a Thread That Has Bog-all To Do With Immigration' competition.

Congratulations.

Next week, the competition gets harder - the thread question will be:

Should Former Welsh Tin Mines Be The Responsibility of the National Trust?

Best of luck.
Sorry, I can't see where ymb has introduced immigration into this thread. Don't let your prejudices blind you to the truth.
It was once said that Marks and Spencer labelled their women's clothes, one size smaller than what they actually were, just to make their female customers feel good about themselves.

But back to the cat-walk, how do Evans plus size ladies shop models, model their clothes, do they choose the smallest size dresses?
Svelk, I don't see another post in this thread that has mentioned immigration or refugees apart from ymb's at 7.03.
Try Specsavers, clover.

You should be very careful making up awards on behalf of the AB Editor, that don't really exist.
Anotheoldgit, yes I think it is true that M&S label their clothes one size smaller for that reason. So do Wallis and other slightly more upmarket brands. I know I have fit into a size 8 at more than one of these shops, whereas I'd be a 12 in other brands. It makes you more inclined to buy. Also, if a 12 is a bit tight, I wouldn't go up to a 14. Sad, I know I'm being manipulated, but true.

YMB's post did not mention immigration, only a reference to refugees.
Ok, I now see that Lynn_M and ymb both mentioned refugees, but neither of them mentioned immigration. I just put the two concepts together because of what's been in the news recently. Apologies.
ANOTHROLDGIT, in general, where do refugees come from if not from other countries?
Lynne introduced refugees/immigration to the thread. YMB was replying to her.

What has 'other countries' got to do with it?

This was about the mentioning of the word 'immigration' to which I rightly said had not been mentioned.
237sj If that's the case they should use lanky teenage boys to model the clothes
I think all references on this thread to r******s and i*********n should be removed. Take your political arguments elsewhere...please. This is getting ridiculous in the extreme.
^That'd be handy, for the people who got it wrong.

Sorry youngmafbog

I didn't see the post directly before yours so my sarcasm was incorrectly aimed at you!
